Solvent Ink Cartridge (2590 / W3T10B) Guide: Fit, Use and Storage

By PackForge Technical Team, Faridabad · 5 min read

Every packed product needs a batch number, a manufacturing and expiry date and an MRP. On paper, almost any ink will do. On film, foil, glass or PET, ordinary water-based ink smears or stays wet. That is the job of a solvent ink cartridge. This guide covers the 2590 black solvent cartridge (compatible with HP W3T10B): what it is, how to check it fits your printer, how to get a clean code and how to store spares.

What Is a Solvent Ink Cartridge?

It is a sealed ink cartridge for handheld inkjet coders and batch coders. The ink is solvent based and quick drying, so it sets on surfaces that soak nothing up. The PackForge 2590 Solvent Black fits printers built for the HP 2590 (W3T10B) slot; it is a compatible cartridge rather than an HP original.

Why Use a Solvent Ink Cartridge?

  • Codes that set fast on laminated pouches, foil, PET, glass and metal.
  • One cartridge, many surfaces: it also prints on paper and corrugated.
  • More than dates: batch numbers, MFG and EXP dates, MRP, logos, barcodes and QR codes.
  • No refilling: remove the empty one, push in a new one and print.

What Are the Main Types of Coding Ink?

Solvent Ink

  • Quick drying on non-absorbent surfaces
  • The 2590 Solvent Black is this type
  • ₹3,099 + ₹558 GST

Water-based Ink

  • Made for paper and other surfaces that absorb
  • Smears or stays wet on film, foil, glass or PET
  • Not sold by PackForge

No Ink: Thermal Labels

Understanding Print Height, Fit and Surfaces

Print height is how tall the printed code can be: up to 12.7 mm for the 2590, which prints batch numbers, dates, MRP, logos, barcodes and QR codes within it. Fit is decided by the cartridge slot, not the printer brand name: look at the slot or the label of the old cartridge for “2590” or “W3T10B”. A cartridge made for another type will not fit. Surface decides the ink: film and laminated pouches, foil, PET and glass bottles, metal, coated boxes, paper and corrugated board are all listed for this ink. The cartridge measures 65 × 40 × 75 mm and comes with a protective cap.

Read the spec line of any coding cartridge the same way: cartridge code (here 2590 / W3T10B), ink type (solvent), colour (black), print height (12.7 mm) and the surfaces it is made for. If the cartridge code on your printer does not match, nothing else on the list matters, because the cartridge will not fit the slot.

Features to Check Before Ordering

The cartridge code: 2590 or W3T10B on your printer or old cartridge.

Ink type for your pack: solvent for film, foil, glass and metal.

Colour: the 2590 Solvent Black prints black.

A protective cap: it keeps the nozzle from drying between jobs.

Invoice and delivery: a GST invoice and free delivery across India come with every order.

How to Get a Clean Code

  1. Confirm the fit first – send your printer model or a photo of the old cartridge if unsure.
  2. Code only on clean, dry packs; wet, oily or dusty surfaces do not take a clean code.
  3. Remove the cap just before printing and print a test line.
  4. Let the code set before packs rub against each other.
  5. Cap it again whenever the printer sits idle.

For example, a spice brand coding laminated pouches and a dispatch team dating corrugated cartons can use the same black solvent cartridge; a unit that wants stick-on labels instead would choose the thermal label printer.

What to Print: A Typical Coding Layout

Most food, spice and oil packs carry the same four lines: batch number, manufacturing date, expiry or best before date and MRP. The 2590 cartridge prints these, and a logo, barcode or QR code if you need one, up to 12.7 mm high. Keep the layout the same on every pack so the inspector and the shopkeeper always find the code in the same place.

Choose the surface carefully: a flat, clean and dry panel gives the sharpest code. On a curved bottle, code on the flattest part; on a pouch, code away from the seal and folds.

Who Uses the 2590 Solvent Cartridge?

Typical users are pouch coding at spice, snack and pickle units, bottle marking at oil packers and carton dating in dispatch. What they share is surfaces that soak nothing up – film, foil, glass, PET and metal – where a water-based ink would smear or stay wet. If most of your codes land on paper only, a solvent ink is not essential; if they land on film or glass, it is the right type.

The cartridge is sold for printers you already have; PackForge does not list the handheld printer itself. The price is ₹3,099 + ₹558 GST against an MRP of ₹3,779, with a cart discount from 2 pieces and a separate rate for 50 or more. Delivery is free across India with a GST invoice.

How to Fit a New 2590 Cartridge

  1. Check the code on the old cartridge: 2590 or W3T10B.
  2. Remove the empty cartridge from the printer.
  3. Take the protective cap off the new one and push it into the slot.
  4. Print a test line on a scrap pack of the same material.
  5. Keep the cap – put it back whenever the printer will sit idle.

Nothing is refilled and no ink is poured. If the new cartridge does not seat in the slot, stop and send a photo of the slot and the old cartridge on WhatsApp to +91 95822 69346 before forcing it.

How to Store Solvent Ink Cartridges?

Cap on: fit the protective cap whenever the cartridge is out of use; an open nozzle on an idle printer dries.

Upright and cool: spares stand up, somewhere cool and never near a flame.

Clean nozzle: use a soft cloth that leaves no fibres behind.

Order ahead: 50 pieces or more get a separate bulk rate; smaller quantities get a cart discount from 2 pieces up.

To confirm a fit, WhatsApp the printer model or a photo of the old cartridge to +91 95822 69346.

Frequently Asked Questions about Solvent Ink Cartridges

Which printers take the 2590 cartridge?

Any handheld inkjet coder or batch coder built for the HP 2590 (W3T10B) slot. Tell us the printer model and we will confirm it.

Is the PackForge 2590 an original HP cartridge?

No. It is a compatible cartridge, not an HP product; the HP name belongs to its owner.

Will solvent ink hold on laminated pouches?

Yes. Being solvent based, it sets fast on laminate, foil, PET, glass and metal; paper and corrugated board take it too.

How tall can the code be?

Up to 12.7 mm. Within that height it prints batch numbers, MFG and EXP dates, MRP, logos, barcodes or QR codes.

Why is my code smudged?

Usually the pack was wet, oily or dusty at the coding point, or the code was rubbed before it set.

How should spare cartridges be stored?

Capped, standing up, somewhere cool and well away from any flame. Clean the nozzle with a soft cloth that leaves no fibres.
