A Complete Guide on How to Choose a Band Sealer and Maintenance Tips
By PackForge Technical Team, Faridabad · 5 min read
A pouch line usually slows down at one point: the person pressing each pack under a hand sealer. Fill rates climb, the trays of open pouches grow, and the seal becomes the bottleneck. A band sealer fixes that by sealing while the pouch moves. This guide explains how one works, which type suits which pack, the numbers worth reading on a spec sheet, and how to keep the belts and heaters in good order.
What Is a Band Sealer?
A band sealer, also called a continuous band sealing machine, carries the open mouth of a pouch between two moving belts. The belts carry it past heated blocks that stay at temperature, the film fuses as it travels, and the pouch leaves the machine closed. Because the pouch never stops, output depends on the belt speed rather than on how fast someone can press a bar.
On the CS900 range the belt runs at up to 12 metres a minute and the temperature can be set up to 300 °C.
Why Use a Band Sealer?
- Output that does not tire: the belt keeps the same pace from the first pouch to the last.
- One even seal: every pack gets the same 8 to 10 mm band at the same heat and pressure.
- Room for extras: date embossing, steel wheel printing or air and nitrogen flushing happen in the same pass on the right model.
- Upright packing: vertical models keep powders and liquids away from the seal.
- Heavier packs: reinforced models carry 10 or 15 kg bags through the head.
What Are the Major Types of Band Sealers?
Standard Horizontal or Vertical
- CS900L lays pouches flat; CS900V keeps them upright
- Up to 3 kg on a 153 mm belt
- From ₹12,812 + ₹2,306 GST
Wide Conveyor
- CS900LW / VW with a 300 mm belt
- Packs up to 5 kg
- From ₹48,025 + ₹8,645 GST
Flushing Models
- CS900AF: air or nitrogen in just before the seal
- CVS900: vacuum first, then gas back-fill
- From ₹40,320 + ₹7,258 GST
Heavy Bag Models
- CS1100: 10 kg bags standing up, with a printed date
- CS1680: woven sacks and thick laminate, 15 kg
- From ₹95,872 + ₹17,257 GST
Understanding Belt Speed, Seal Width and Film Thickness
Belt speed is given in metres a minute. A 0 to 12 m/min range means you can slow the belt for thick film and speed it up for thin film; heat and speed are set together. Seal width is the width of the band: 8 to 10 mm on most models and 6 to 12 mm on the CS1100 and CVS900. Film thickness is the other limit – up to 0.08 mm on the standard models and 0.12 to 0.18 mm on the CS1680. Finally, conveyor loading tells you how heavy a filled pack the belt can carry without dragging: 3, 5, 10 or 15 kg depending on the model.
Band Sealer Features to Look For
Adjustable temperature: a control that goes up to 300 °C lets one machine handle several films.
Variable speed: slower for thick laminate, faster for thin poly.
Coding in the same pass: embossed or printed dates save a separate step.
Height adjustment: the sealing head or stand should move to suit your pouch height.
Belt width for your pack: a wide or heavy pouch needs the 300 mm belt or a reinforced frame.
Spares you can get: belts and heating parts wear, so check they are stocked before you buy.
How to Choose the Right Band Sealer for Yourself?
- Weigh a filled pack. Up to 3 kg: the CS900 family. Up to 5 kg: the CS900LW / VW. Up to 10 kg: the CS1100.
- Decide flat or upright. Powder, grain and liquid travel better upright on a vertical model.
- Check the film. Thick laminate or woven sack film calls for the CS1680.
- Ask whether the product needs gas. Chips and dry fruit may need the CS900AF or CVS900.
For example, a namkeen unit filling 500 g pouches all day would look at the CS900L or, if the packs must be puffed with air, the CS900AF; a rice mill packing 10 kg bags would look at the CS1100. The band sealer machine page lists every model with its rate.
Band Sealer Buying Checklist
Before you compare quotes, write these down for your own packs. They are the same questions the PackForge desk asks on WhatsApp:
- Filled weight of the heaviest pack – it decides the belt: 3, 5, 10 or 15 kg.
- Pouch width and height – a wide pack needs the 300 mm conveyor of the CS900LW / VW.
- Film type and thickness – up to 0.08 mm on the standard models, 0.12 to 0.18 mm on the CS1680.
- Flat or upright travel – powders and liquids go upright.
- Air, nitrogen or vacuum – only if the product needs it, because it adds cost.
- Date coding – embossed on the CS900, printed with a steel wheel on the CS1100.
- Power supply – 220 V on the belt machines; the CS1100 and CVS900 also accept 110 V.
With those seven answers, most buyers are left with one or two models. Every rate is listed on the band sealing machine price list.
How to Maintain a Band Sealer?
Every day: wipe powder and oil off the belts and guides when you finish, and let the machine cool before covering it.
Every week: look at the belts for cuts, glazing or stretch, and at the seal – a weaker band at the same settings is the first sign of wear.
When the seal changes: check the temperature and speed first, then the belts, then the heating blocks.
Keep wear parts in stock: belts and heating parts are outside the 12-month warranty; a spare set turns a stoppage into a short change.
Safety: switch off and let the blocks cool before you open any guard.

Frequently Asked Questions about Band Sealers
Is a band sealer better than a hand sealer?
For a steady stream of pouches, yes, because the belt keeps the pace. For a few hundred packs a day, a hand impulse sealer is simpler and costs far less.
Can a band sealer seal laminated pouches?
Yes, laminated pouches up to the film limit of the model: 0.08 mm on the standard machines and 0.12 to 0.18 mm on the CS1680.
What does nitrogen flushing do?
It pushes oxygen out of the pouch before sealing, which helps dry fruit, coffee and snacks last longer on the shelf.
How often do band sealer belts need changing?
There is no fixed interval; it depends on hours, heat and the film. Change them when cuts, glazing or a weaker seal appear.
Does a band sealer print the date?
The CS900 embosses a date code and the CS1100 prints one with a steel wheel, in the same pass as the seal.
Do I need compressed air for a band sealer?
Not for the belt models. The PS700A pneumatic jaw sealer is the one in this family that needs an air supply.
