Heavy bags and wide bags

Two variations exist for the same reason. A heavier bag needs a conveyor that will carry the weight without the bag dragging out of the seal line, and a wide bag needs a wide conveyor so it is supported across its width rather than sagging.

If your bags are heavy or wide, say so - it moves the recommendation to a different model rather than a different setting.

What it costs you that a bench machine does not

Being fair about the downside: a band sealer takes a few minutes to reach temperature, so it is not sensible for twenty bags a day. It occupies real floor space rather than a corner of a bench. And it has moving belts, which are wear parts on top of the heating elements.

None of that matters at volume and all of it matters below it. If your count is modest, we will tell you to stay with the bench machine.

Feeding it, which is where the output actually goes

A band sealer removes the operator from the sealing, and then the bench discovers that sealing was never the whole job.

The machine will take bags as fast as they can be presented to it. Whether it does depends entirely on how the bag arrives: someone has to bring it, hold the mouth open to the guides, and set it on the conveyor square. If that is one person doing it between other tasks, the machine spends most of its day idle and the money is not working.

This is the single most common disappointment with the format, and it is a bench layout problem rather than a machine problem. Units that get full value from a band sealer usually have someone filling and someone feeding, and a surface at the right height on the infeed side so bags can be lined up rather than carried one at a time.

Before quoting, we would rather know how many people work the bench and what happens immediately before the bag reaches the sealer. If the answer is one person doing everything, the honest recommendation is often the bench machine and a second pair of hands.
