Understand the Requirement Before Buying a Carton Sealer

Four facts about your own boxes narrow eight machines down to one or two:

• How many carton sizes run in a day? One or two steady sizes suit a set-size sealer; a mix that changes order by order suits a self-adjusting one.
• How small is the smallest box? The 102TU needs a carton of at least about 150 mm long; the 102TUS holds boxes down to 80 to 90 mm.
• Is there compressed air? The random size, flap folding and edge sealing machines all need an air line; the set-size sealers run on electricity alone.
• Who folds the flaps? If one person spends the shift folding, the 5050Z folds the four top flaps itself.

Tips to Use a Carton Sealer Correctly

1. Set the machine to the real carton, measured filled, not the size on the drawing.
2. Load the tape width the heads are set for.
3. Close the flaps square before the box enters; a skewed box gives a skewed seam.
4. Push, do not throw: place heavy cartons on the table rather than dropping them.
5. Check the tape legs reach well down each side on the first boxes of a run.
6. Keep air dry and at pressure on the pneumatic models, and switch off before clearing a jam.
