What is a hot air label shrink tunnel?

The tunnel is 1000 mm long, 150 mm wide and 380 mm high. Heaters drawing 8 kW on 220 V blow hot air around the sleeve as each bottle passes. A 90 W conveyor motor sets the pace anywhere from 0 - 10 metre per minute, and the belt can carry up to 15 kg. Slower movement gives the film more heat, while a faster belt suits thin sleeves that shrink quickly.

Oil packers banding caps, pickle units sealing jar lids, and pharma or cosmetics fillers adding a printed sleeve all fit this machine. A person or an applicator must place each sleeve first, since the tunnel only shrinks. For shaped bottles on fast lines, the steam S1838 leaves fewer wrinkles. At 96 kg, the S1538L fits neatly at the end of a small line.

Banding a pickle jar on the S1538L – 4 steps

   Measure the containerCheck the jar at its widest point and its full height against the 105 mm and 350 mm limits.

   Heat and set speedSwitch on the 8 kW heaters and choose a conveyor speed between 0 and 10 metre per minute for your film.

   Place the bandsSlip a POF, PVC or PP neck band over each cap by hand or applicator, sitting evenly at the right height.

   Run a trial batchPass a few jars through, check that bands sit tight with no creases, then fine-tune speed before the full lot.
