Packaging machines for Indore

Ask how many pairs of hands touch one of your cartons between your bench and your customer. In central India the honest answer is usually more than anybody has counted, and each pair is a chance to damage it.

Indore is central India's commercial centre: pharmaceutical and formulation units, food processing and soya, plastics, auto components and engineering across Pithampur, Sanwer Road and Dewas, and one of the country's busier redistribution trades.

PackForge Industries supplies from our works at Faridabad. This page is about goods that are transhipped rather than delivered, which is most of what leaves this city.

Counting the handlings

A carton going from Indore to a dealer in a smaller town is rarely carried by one vehicle. It is loaded, unloaded at a hub, sorted, reloaded, and often repeated.

Each handling is a lift, a slide and a stack, and the damage is cumulative rather than dramatic. Cartons arrive scuffed, corners crushed, and nobody can say where it happened.

Design for the number of handlings, not the distance. A carton that survives one handling per hundred kilometres is a different carton from one that survives four.

Strapping is what pays here. A strapped carton keeps its shape through repeated stacking, and a strapped block of several cartons is handled as one item instead of four.

Ask your own dealers where their goods arrive damaged. They know which hub it happens at, they are never asked, and the answer often points at one leg of the route rather than at your packing.

The hub, and goods that stand

Between handlings, goods stand — in a hub godown, often for longer than anybody planned, stacked beside whatever else arrived that day.

Stack load is therefore set by somebody else's decisions, not yours. The only defence is a carton that can take more than your own godown requires, and a printed stack limit that a hub supervisor can actually read.

Mark on two adjacent faces. In a hub, half your cartons will be stacked with one marked face against a wall, and an unreadable carton gets opened.

Where goods are valuable, do not describe the contents on the outside. A stack limit and a handling symbol are useful; an inventory is an invitation.

Pharmaceutical and food, packed for the same journey

Both of Indore's largest trades put a date and a batch on the pack, and both are judged on whether the pack was intact when it arrived.

The seal has to be made before the identity is lost — everything that identifies a batch must be on or in the carton before it closes, and a clear break at changeover prevents the mix-ups that no equipment can.

For food pouches, the common failure is product in the seal line. Powder or oil between the films makes a seal that looks complete and is not, and it opens at a distributor weeks later.

Filling, sealing and labelling machines here are Fulcrum catalogue models, supplied, installed and serviced by Fulcrum Infratech Pvt. Ltd.; the carton sealing, strapping and wrapping that follow them are built at our Faridabad works.

Returns, and the goods that come back

A redistribution trade has a return flow, and returned goods are packed by whoever has them, with whatever is available.

That produces two costs: damage on the return journey, and the labour of re-sorting goods that arrive unidentifiable.

Where returns are routine, send the return instruction with the outward consignment — which carton to use, how to close it, what to write on it. A dealer will follow it because it is easier than deciding.

Mark returns clearly. Mixed into the outward flow at a hub, a return becomes somebody else's despatch and reaches a customer as new stock.

Buying into central India

Faridabad to Indore is a straightforward long-haul road move; the machine leaves run-tested and packed for the distance, ex works, with GST and freight quoted separately.

Hold the wearing parts locally. At this distance a part in transit turns an hour's fault into a week's, and the parts themselves are inexpensive.

Tell us your season with the enquiry. Ordering parts before a peak rather than during it is the most useful thing a distant buyer can do.

What to send with an enquiry

Carton size, weight, how many an hour, and how many times the carton will be handled before it reaches the person who opens it.

That last figure is the one that separates a sensible recommendation from a guess, and almost nobody includes it.

You will get the machine that fits, the wearing-parts list, and an honest note where better cartons would do more than a machine.

Questions buyers in Indore ask

Cartons arrive scuffed and crushed with no explanation.

Cumulative damage from repeated handling at hubs. Design for the number of handlings rather than the distance, and strap the cartons so they keep their shape.

How high will our goods be stacked?

Higher than you intend, by somebody else, in a hub godown. Print a stack limit where a supervisor can read it and specify board that can take more than your own godown needs.

Should we print the contents on the carton?

A stack limit and handling symbols, yes. A description of valuable contents, no — in a hub that is an invitation.

Our food pouches open at the distributor.

Product in the seal line. Fill below the seal line and wipe the pouch mouth if the product is oily.

Returned goods arrive damaged and unidentifiable.

Send the return instruction out with the goods — which carton, how to close it, what to write. A dealer follows it because it is easier than deciding.

Do you make the filling and sealing machines?

No. Those are Fulcrum catalogue models, supplied, installed and serviced by Fulcrum Infratech Pvt. Ltd. Carton sealing, strapping, wrapping and handling are built at our Faridabad works.

Is it worth strapping cartons into blocks for a hub?

Yes. A block of three or four is one item on the tally instead of four, it keeps its shape through repeated stacking, and an opened block is visible.
