If there is a default seal length in Indian packing, this is it - long enough for most retail and despatch bags, short enough that the machine still sits on a counter.
Ready to order? The 12 inch hand sealing machine page has the price, specifications and spares.
Around twelve inches is the length that covers the largest range of everyday work. It takes most food and retail pouches, most garment and hosiery bags, standard courier and e-commerce bags, and the medium poly bags a hardware or trading unit uses all day.
It is asked for most often precisely because it is the middle. A buyer who does not know what length they need tends to arrive at it, which is fine as a starting point and worth checking against the actual bag before ordering. Lay the bag flat on the table, empty, and measure straight across the mouth from fold to fold. That measurement - not the bag's printed size and not its capacity - is what has to fit inside the seal bar.
Two reasons, and neither is about the machine. The first is that a great deal of retail packing in India settles at bag widths that fit inside this length - the common poly bag sizes, the common pouch sizes, the standard courier bag.
The second is bench space. A twelve-inch machine is still a counter machine. It goes on an existing packing table without rearranging the room, which a much longer bar does not.
Three cases push past it. A liner bag for a carton or a drum is usually wider. A large garment or bedding bag is usually wider. And a bulk or institutional pack - the five kilo bag rather than the five hundred gram one - is usually wider.
If any of those are part of your work, even occasionally, measure them. The occasional wide bag is what makes a machine feel wrong six months after it was bought.
Twelve inches is wide enough that the bags going through it are often full, and a full bag will not hold itself square while one hand comes off it to press the bar.
This is where the format question gets real. If the operator needs both hands on the bag, a foot-operated machine is the right buy even though it costs a little more. If the bench runs all shift, a table top machine is built for that duty in a way a hand-pressed one is not.
Widest bag measured flat, the film, and the daily count. We quote the length against your bag rather than asking you to choose from a list.
If twelve inches is right we will confirm it. If your bags are comfortably narrower, we will say that too - there is no reason to sell you more bar than your work uses.
A bench that has grown often faces a choice nobody frames properly: buy one larger machine, or buy a second machine the same size.
Two bench sealers is the better answer more often than buyers expect. Two operators can seal at once, which a single larger machine does not allow. A failure takes out half your capacity instead of all of it. Spares are common to both. And two machines can be set differently - one for a thin courier bag and one for a heavier pouch - which removes the adjusting that eats a shift.
One larger machine is the better answer when the reason for the upgrade is a wider bag rather than more bags, or when bench space genuinely will not take a second unit.
So the question to answer first is which of those two you actually have. If the bags are the same and there are simply more of them, a second machine is usually the cheaper and more resilient buy - and after that, the band sealer.
For most standard courier and e-commerce bags, yes. Measure your widest one flat across the mouth and send us the figure - that settles it properly.
A little margin is sensible; a lot is money spent on bar you will not use and a bigger machine on the bench. Tell us what you pack now and what you expect to add.
Foot-operated the moment the bag needs both hands to hold square, which is common once bags are full. Say what is inside the bag and we will advise.
That is a film question, not a length question. Send a sample of the liner - the two limits are separate.
If the bags are the same and there are just more of them, a second machine usually wins - two operators, half the risk, common spares. A bigger machine is for wider bags.
