The pallet is the unit

Once goods leave a Mumbai warehouse for a container, nobody handles the carton again — they handle the pallet. If the pallet is sound, the cartons arrive; if it is not, no amount of carton strength will save them.

That puts a turntable stretch wrapper at the centre of the specification rather than at the edge of it. Most of the result comes from two adjustments. Film force sets whether the film truly grips the pallet or just drapes over it; the count of wraps at the top is what keeps the upper layer of cartons from shifting on the way to the port.

Unsteady loads — tall stacks of light cartons, or cartons of different heights — call for a box wrapping machine with top press, which clamps the stack from above during rotation. Pressing the load in place solves the problem at its source; piling on more film never does.

For the heaviest export pallets, the pallet is also strapped to its load. A pneumatic strapping tool does that where an arch will not fit round the load.

Humidity, and what it does to a wrapped pallet

A container standing in a Mumbai yard reaches temperatures and humidity that a warehouse never sees, and the load inside it goes through that cycle twice before it is opened. Cartons soften, adhesives creep, and film that was merely covering a load at despatch is doing nothing by arrival.

This is the practical reason film force is the setting to get right rather than the one to leave at the factory default. A load that is genuinely held stays held through the cycle; a load that is loosely wrapped does not.

It is also why tape choice matters more on an export carton than on a domestic one. Tell us the destination and the season and we will say what we know honestly, including where the answer is 'that is a question for your carton supplier'.

Pharma and chemical lines

On pharmaceutical and chemical lines the machine must fit the plant's rules, not the reverse: processes are written down, contact materials have to be declared, and sooner or later an auditor asks how the moving parts are guarded.

Every chemical store also moves drums, and no single item cuts the chance of injury there as much as a drum carrier and lifter whose safety lock actually works.

Let us know if the machine will sit in a store before installation, as often happens while a new line is still going up. A machine packed to wait out a Mumbai monsoon is packed differently from one that will be unboxed on arrival, and choosing the right packing at despatch adds nothing to the cost.

Ask for the despatch date at any time; the transporter's docket number follows as soon as the truck leaves.

Where the machines go around Mumbai

The manufacturing has largely moved out of the island city. The addresses that matter are Taloja and Rabale in Navi Mumbai, the Turbhe and TTC industrial area at Mahape, Ambernath and Badlapur further out, Bhiwandi for warehousing and consolidation, and Thane's Wagle Estate for lighter industry.

Bhiwandi is a category of its own — it is where a very large share of the country's consolidation happens, and it is almost entirely a pallet, wrapper and pallet-truck market rather than a machine-shop one.

Spares at distance, and AMC

Our stores carry wear parts for each model in the range, but Mumbai is a long way off, so it pays to keep a few on your own shelf: film carriage rollers for a wrapper, a spare heating element for a strapping machine, and a wheel and seal kit for each pallet truck.

Where a site runs several machines, the value of an AMC lies in the scheduled visits more than in breakdown cover. Give us the machine count and the locations, and the AMC is priced for that whole set instead of charging each call-out separately.
