What is a 16 inch impulse sealer?
Poly mailers decided this size. A 12 × 16 inch courier bag has a 305 mm mouth, too wide for a 12 inch, so online sellers and warehouse packing tables settle on the 400 mm bar. The Standard 16 inch carries a 500 W element, weighs 4 kg and suits a seller or store that packs a few hundred bags a day.
On a normal day it closes courier mailers, 14 × 18 inch covers of folded shirts and kurtas, and 2 kg rice, atta or sugar packs in 14 × 20 inch LDPE bags. Electronics sellers bag chargers and cables with it, and hospital stores close linen bags. Anything up to 15.5 inch across the mouth seals in a single press.

Packing-table habits for a 16 inch
- Keep the sealer at the end of the table where filled mailers arrive, so each bag travels flat into the jaw.
- Press trapped air out of garment covers before sealing; a puffed bag pulls the film unevenly across 400 mm.
- For a 2 kg grocery pack, stand the bag on the table and let only its mouth rest on the bar.
- A scorched or torn patch of Teflon tape leaves a rough mark in the seal; that is when to fit the spare.
Daily care for a 16 inch bar
A 400 mm element running on 500 W sits under a long Teflon strip, so most daily care is about keeping that whole length even. Each morning, make one test seal on a scrap mailer and pull it at both ends and in the centre. Courier mailers are often thicker than grocery LDPE, so note one dial number for mailers and a lower one for 2 kg packs. Lint from garments and dust from cartons collect along the bar; clean it off whenever the table is cleared. Change the Teflon strip when it scorches, and replace the element if seals stay weak after that.

Is 16 inch the right width?
Pick the 12 inch if no bag you use is wider than 11.5 inch; it is smaller and lighter. Pick the 20 inch if 5 or 10 kg rice bags are part of the work, and the 24 inch for blanket covers. The Standard model handles a seller's daily dispatch. A 3PL table that seals without a break, or a seller shipping 200 plus orders daily, will get more from the Heavy Duty 16 inch.

Does the seal show if a mailer has been opened?
A heat seal cannot be peeled open and pressed shut again, so a torn or cut seal is easy to spot. For extra assurance you can still add a printed tape or label over it.
Can it seal thick laminated sacks?
Thick laminated sacks are beyond a hand impulse sealer and need a foot sealer or band sealer. PE-lined laminates are fine as long as the combined thickness of both layers stays within 150 micron.
Why does the 16 inch use 500 W when the 12 inch uses 215 W?
A longer element needs more power to heat its whole length within the same short pulse. That is why the 400 mm bar is rated at 500 W while the smaller bars run on 215 W.
Is it too big for a home seller?
At 4 kg with a 400 mm bar it needs a table, not a shelf. If your products ship in 12 × 16 inch mailers the size is justified; if most orders go in small pouches, a 10 or 12 inch is easier.
Do mailers with an adhesive flap still need the sealer?
A self-seal flap does not need heat. The 16 inch is useful when you cut a mailer down to size, use a plain poly bag instead, or want a heat seal under the flap for extra security.
Will it seal anti-static or bubble-lined bags for electronics?
Pink anti-static PE bags and plain PE bubble bags are polyethylene and seal in the normal way. Metallised shielding bags are a different film; test one first, and if it does not hold, use a hot bar sealer.
