What is a pneumatic strapping tool?

Air at 5 to 7 bar drives a small motor inside the tool. First it turns a tension wheel that drags the top strap back until the set pull is reached. Then a second motion rubs the two strap layers together fast enough that they melt and bond. A blade trims the end. Each strap takes about 3 to 5 seconds, and the tool body is around 280 x 160 x 180 mm.

Steel, tile, timber, paper reel and export packers use it where loads stay on their pallet or hang from a crane. At 3.8 to 4.5 kg it is light enough to carry between bays. Fit a filter-regulator and drain water from the line every day. No compressor on site? The 101BPT battery tool does this work without a hose, and repeat cartons go faster on an arch machine.

Strapping a pallet with the pneumatic tool – 4 steps

   Check the airRead the pressure where the hose joins the tool; it should sit between 5 and 7 bar.

   Thread the strapWrap PP or PET strap round the pallet and lay the overlapping ends under the gripper of the tool.

   Tension and weldOperate the tension control to tighten; the friction weld follows, about 3 to 5 seconds in all.

   Release and inspectLift the tool off, check that the joint has fused flat, and move on to the next strap.
