What the different parts of Delhi are sealing

The bag tells you the machine, and Delhi's bags come from several very different trades sitting close together.

• Okhla and Udyog Nagar garment units - large flat poly bags for finished garments, usually filled, usually needing both hands to hold square.
• Naraina, Mayapuri and Kirti Nagar - hardware, fasteners and auto parts bagged in small heavy quantities, where the weight pulls the bag out of shape.
• Courier and e-commerce despatch across the city - thin polybags in high counts on a bench that runs all afternoon.
• Old Delhi's trading and spice houses - laminated pouches and small packets, where the pack has to look right because it is sold on a shelf.

The Delhi answer is usually the format, not the size

Because bags here are so often full - a garment bag, a bag of fasteners, a filled courier polybag - the question that matters is whether the operator can hold the bag square with one hand.

More Delhi enquiries end at a foot-operated machine than the buyer expected. The pedal keeps both hands on the bag, and on a bench where the same person is packing and sealing all day it removes the fumbling that a hand-pressed bar creates.

Where the bench genuinely runs all shift, the table top machine is the right duty - a light counter sealer cycled continuously wears its element out and then gets blamed for it.

When a Delhi bench outgrows the bar

The e-commerce and courier despatch benches are where this happens first. Once bags are stacking up beside the machine rather than the machine waiting for bags, no hand-pressed sealer catches up.

A continuous band sealer is the answer, and the practical objection in Delhi is always floor space. It occupies a real footprint and needs a few minutes to warm up, so it is worth being sure the volume is there before committing the space.

The part worth planning for is not the machine but the consumables. A heating element and a PTFE strip are ordinary wear items, and a bench that seals all day gets through them. Ask what they cost before you buy, and keep one of each on the shelf - it turns a failure into a five-minute job instead of a lost afternoon in a market that is closed on your weekly off.

Power, and what a Delhi bench should check first

The commonest technical complaint we hear from Delhi benches has nothing to do with the sealing machine, and everything to do with what it is plugged into.

An impulse sealer draws a short, sharp current every time the bar comes down. On a good supply that is unremarkable. On a bench sharing an old extension board with a fan, a computer and a light, the voltage sags for that instant and the element does not get the energy it needed - so the seal is weak, intermittently, in a pattern that looks random and is not.

It shows up worst in summer, on a floor where several units share a supply, which describes a great deal of Delhi's packing.

The fix is unglamorous and cheap: give the machine its own socket on a decent lead rather than the far end of a daisy-chained board, and check whether the failures follow the time of day. If they do, it is the supply and not the machine.
