Semi Automatic Carton Sealing Machines

A semi automatic carton sealer is for the line where every carton is the same size. The machine is set once for that size and then tapes the top and the bottom in a single pass, with the operator only pushing the carton in.

That fixed-size assumption is what makes it cheap and reliable. There is no measuring head, no size-detection, nothing to go out of adjustment. For a unit packing one product into one carton - a food or beverage packer, a pharmaceutical distributor, a corrugation unit, a single-SKU e-commerce operation - it is the sensible machine and the automatic random model would be money spent on a problem you do not have.

The gain over manual taping is not only speed. A machine lays a straight, consistent length of tape on every carton, which uses noticeably less tape than a person with a dispenser and produces a carton that looks the same in every consignment.

Choosing the right one

Carton dimensions come first - the height, width and length of the box you seal. Send those three numbers and most of the choice is made.

Then the drive. Side-belt machines grip the carton on both sides and suit boxes that are reasonably rigid and not too light. Top-and-side drive suits taller or heavier cartons that would otherwise be pushed rather than carried. The weight and the stiffness of your carton decide it, so say what is inside.

Then tape width, because the tape head is built for a width and the roll your store buys should match it. And say whether the carton flaps are folded by hand before it goes in, or whether you need a flap-folding section on the infeed.

What this range will not do

It will not handle mixed carton sizes without resetting. If your sizes change through the day, every change is a manual adjustment, and after a few of those the operator stops bothering and tapes by hand. That is the case for the automatic random machine instead.

It does not fold flaps unless the machine is specified with a flap folder.

And it does not compensate for a weak carton. A box that bulges will not present a flat top to the tape head, and no sealer will make that seal look right.
