What is a steam label shrink tunnel?

Steam at 0.1 MPa enters the 1350 x 180 x 380 mm tunnel and holds the shrink zone at 75 - 85 deg C. Bottles wearing loose sleeves pass through on a conveyor, and the moist heat reaches every recess at the same moment. The tunnel itself draws only 150 W on 220 V, because the heat comes from a separate steam generator, which uses about 24 kg of steam every hour.

This machine belongs on high volume lines: packaged water, juice, soft drinks, dairy and pharma bottles with shaped bodies. It sits right after a sleeve applicator. Plan for the 12 or 24 kW generator, a water feed, a drain and 2400 mm of floor length. Lower volumes and straight-sided jars are simpler to handle on the hot air S1538L.

   Raise steamStart the steam generator and bring the supply to 0.1 MPa, with the condensate drain under the tunnel open.

   Check the temperatureLet the tunnel settle at 75 - 85 deg C before sending bottles, or sleeves may stay loose at the shoulder.

   Link the applicatorRun sleeved bottles from the applicator straight onto the tunnel conveyor, upright and evenly spaced.

   Inspect and tuneCheck sleeves for wrinkles or dry patches, then adjust the line pace within 5000 - 15000 bottles an hour.
