What is a pneumatic crown capping machine?

The bottle stands on a base under a crowning head with a crown sitting on its mouth. Pressing the foot switch sends compressed air into a cylinder, which drives the head down. A shaped throat in the head folds the crown's fluted skirt tightly under the bottle's lip, holding the gas in. Air above 0.8 MPa is needed for a firm crimp at 10 to 20 bottles a minute.

It fits small soda makers, brewers and traditional drink bottlers moving off a hand lever. The metal body is 300 by 250 mm at the base and 690 mm tall, so it sits on a bench next to the filler. Use glass meant for fizzy drinks. Screw-top bottles need a screw capper such as the CL40.

Crowning a soda bottle on the PCC – 4 steps
