From roller coder to inkjet
Old hand coders used rubber type set by hand and an ink roller. Each change of date meant re-setting the type, and the code smudged on plastic. An inkjet hand coder is typed on a screen, prints on plastic with solvent ink, and adds a running number per pack if needed.
