What is a tong sealer machine?
Most sealers need the bag to come to the machine. A tong sealer goes to the bag. That is why it is used for filled sacks with a poly liner, cartons with an inner bag, big coffee and tea pouches, and any pack that is too heavy or too awkward to lift onto a table sealer.
Because it works on constant heat with a temperature dial, the same machine handles thin PE bags on a low setting and thick foil or multi-layer laminate on a high setting. The ribbed jaws leave a wide 10 mm seal that holds against moisture and dust.
Sealing with a tong sealer – 4 steps
- 1Switch on and set the dialGive the jaws about 1–2 minutes to reach heat. Start low for thin PE and turn up for thick laminate or foil.
- 2Gather the bag mouth flatFold out any creases and keep the product an inch or two below the line where the seal will be.
- 3Close the jaws for a few secondsSqueeze the handles so both jaws press evenly across the mouth. Thicker film needs a little longer.
- 4Release and checkOpen the jaws and let the 10 mm seal cool for a moment, then pull gently to check it before the next bag.

Which bags and pouches can a tong sealer seal?
Bag mouth laid flat: up to about 290 mm (11.5 inch) closes in one press. Wider mouths can be sealed in two overlapping presses.

Tips for a strong seal
- Let the jaws reach heat before the first bag; a cold jaw gives a weak, cloudy seal.
- Keep powder, oil and crumbs out of the top inch of the bag, where the seal forms.
- Raise the dial for thick laminate or foil and lower it for thin PE, so the film does not burn through.
- Rest the tong sealer on its stand between seals; the jaws stay hot.
Care and safety
The jaws of a tong sealer stay hot as long as it is switched on, so always put it back on its stand and switch it off after work. Wipe the jaws with a dry cloth once they are cool, to remove melted film. If the seal turns uneven from one end to the other, check the temperature setting first; if that does not fix it, the heating element may need replacing – our team guides you on phone or WhatsApp, and spares are kept in stock.

What is a tong sealer machine?
A tong sealer is a hand held heat sealer shaped like a pair of tongs. You squeeze its two heated jaws over the mouth of a bag or pouch and the jaws melt the film together in a 10 mm wide seal. Because you carry it to the bag, it is used where a bag is too heavy or too big to lift onto a table sealer.
What is the difference between a tong sealer and an impulse sealer?
An impulse sealer heats only for a second while the arm is pressed and gives a thin 2 mm seal on plain PE and PP bags. A tong sealer keeps its jaws hot all the time (constant or direct heat), so it can seal thick laminates, aluminium foil pouches and metallised film that an impulse sealer cannot close properly.
Which materials can the 12 inch tong sealer seal?

Can I seal a large bag that is already filled and standing on the floor?
Yes, that is the main job of a tong sealer. Leave the filled bag or carton liner where it stands, gather the mouth flat, close the jaws over it for a few seconds and release. Nothing has to be lifted onto a table.
