What is a 7 HP diesel power weeder?

Power from the diesel engine passes through gears, not a belt, to the rotor shaft carrying the blades. Gears keep turning under load, so the tines go on biting in sticky soil where a belt would slip. Working width runs from about 900 to 1,100 mm according to how many blades are fitted, and depth reaches about 150 to 300 mm in suitable ground. A 3.5 litre diesel tank feeds the engine.

This model earns its keep on several acres of black or clay soil, in wet paddy fields and with contractors who weed other farms by the day. It also prepares beds for vegetables and cash crops. Transporting its 110 to 130 kg weight calls for a trolley or tractor. For small scattered plots, the 7 HP petrol weeder is lighter and starts more easily.

   Set the blade countFit enough blades to work about 900 to 1,100 mm wide, removing some so the rotor stays inside your row gap.

   Fuel and startFill the 3.5 litre tank with diesel, check the engine oil, then give the starter a firm, steady pull.

   Engage at the headlandLower the rotor at the field edge and let it settle to its depth, up to about 300 mm in soft soil.

   Walk the rowsGuide the handles steadily along each row. Lift the rotor before turning, and keep away from stony patches that harm the gearbox.
