Carton Sealing Machine ROI and Payback Calculator

Here is the payback formula, one worked example and a calculator for your own figures. Apart from one machine rate, nothing is filled in for you, because a saving we invented would not help you decide.

Quick answer: Carton sealing machine ROI is worked out from your own figures. Monthly value = taping hours freed × staff cost per hour + tape metres saved × tape price, minus running cost. Payback in months = machine price ÷ that monthly value. For the PackForge semi automatic sealer, use ₹69,730 + ₹12,551 GST.

What does this calculator measure, and what does it leave out?

The calculator puts a number on two things you can measure at your own packing bench: the time people spend taping cartons, and the tape they use. It then sets that monthly figure against the price of a machine.

It does not try to value things that are real but hard to count:

  • Fewer cartons that open or get re-taped on the way.
  • Making the courier or truck cut-off on busy days.
  • Less wrist strain and lifting for the packer who now does not turn every box over.
  • A neater, uniform look when the carton reaches your customer.

Leave those out of the sum and treat them as a bonus. A payback that only works once you add guessed benefits is a weak case. Every result on this page is an estimate built from your figures; PackForge does not promise a saving.

How is payback calculated?

The method has five steps. Each one uses a figure you can check on your own floor.

  1. Seconds saved per carton = hand taping seconds per carton − machine seconds per carton.
  2. Hours freed per month = cartons per day × seconds saved ÷ 3,600 × working days per month.
  3. Labour value per month = hours freed × staff cost per hour.
  4. Tape value per month = cartons per day × (hand tape metres − machine tape metres) × tape price per metre × working days.
  5. Payback in months = machine price ÷ (labour value + tape value − monthly running cost).

Machine seconds means the whole time the operator spends on one box at the machine, folding flaps and feeding it, not the rated belt speed. Running cost covers power and wear parts such as blades and belts.

A worked example (example numbers only)

The figures below are made up to show the arithmetic. They are not PackForge data, and your own numbers will differ.

StepExample inputWorkingResult
Cartons per day400Given400
Seconds saved per cartonHand 30 s, machine 12 s30 − 1218 s
Hours freed per month26 working days400 × 18 ÷ 3,600 × 2652 hours
Labour valueStaff cost ₹100 an hour52 × 100₹5,200
Tape valueHand 1.6 m, machine 1.3 m, tape ₹0.40 a metre400 × 0.3 × 0.40 × 26₹1,248
Running costPower and wear partsAssumed₹600
Net monthly value5,200 + 1,248 − 600₹5,848
PaybackMachine rate ₹69,73069,730 ÷ 5,848About 12 months

In this example the machine would pay for itself in about a year. Halve the carton count and the payback roughly doubles, because the price stays the same while the saving falls. Use the calculator below with your own figures.

Payback calculator (estimate)

Enter your own figures. Fields are empty on purpose; only the machine rate is filled in. Nothing you type is saved or sent.

Tape fields and running cost can be left empty; they are then counted as zero.

Where do the input figures come from?

Measure each input before you trust the answer.

Carton sealer cost saving: when is it real money?

Freed hours only turn into cash if something changes. Be honest about which of these applies to you:

  • The packer moves to other work. Picking, packing or loading gets done without hiring. The labour value counts in full.
  • Overtime or a temporary helper is no longer needed. The saving is real and easy to see on the wage sheet.
  • Nothing changes. The same people stand at the same bench with more idle time. Then the cash saving is close to zero, and the case rests on tape, seal quality and meeting dispatch cut-offs.

A carton sealer cost saving claimed without one of the first two outcomes is only on paper. The calculator cannot tell which case you are in, so enter a staff cost of zero if your honest answer is the third one and see what the tape alone does.

Tape saving calculator: how much tape does a machine really use?

On a machine, the strip per seam is fixed by the carton: the seam length plus one leg folded down each end face. The machine tapes top and bottom together, so per carton the tape is:

Machine tape per carton = 2 × (carton length + 2 × leg length)

For a carton 500 mm long with 70 mm legs, that is 2 × (500 + 140) = 1,280 mm, or about 1.3 m. By hand the same carton often takes more: a long tail, a crooked strip that gets a second strip on top, or a bottom seam taped twice to feel safe. Measure your own hand-sealed boxes rather than assuming.

Tape width changes cost per metre, not metres per carton. If you are moving from 48 mm to 3-inch tape for heavier boxes, price the wider roll in step 4. Machine-length rolls in the widths each head takes are listed under BOPP tape rolls.

Which machine price should you enter?

The calculator starts with the rate of the semi automatic model, because it is the usual first machine. Change it to the model that fits your cartons.

ModelSuitsRate + 18% GST
Compact carton sealerOne small carton, modest volume, tight bench₹57,500 + ₹10,350 GST
Semi automatic carton sealing machineOne regular carton size most of the day₹69,730 + ₹12,551 GST
PackForge 102TURegular size, 2-inch or 3-inch tape₹1,07,520 + ₹19,354 GST
Auto size adjust random sealerMixed sizes all day, compressed air available₹3,19,270 + ₹57,469 GST

A GST-registered business usually claims the GST as input credit, so enter the rate before GST. If you cannot claim it, enter the full amount. All nine models are on the carton sealing machine price page, delivered free across India.

What makes payback longer or shorter?

Run the calculator twice: once with your normal week and once with a slow week. The gap shows how sensitive your case is. These factors move the result most:

  • Shorter payback: one carton size for long runs, two shifts a day, heavy boxes that are tiring to turn by hand, and high tape waste today.
  • Longer payback: low daily counts, sizes that change every few minutes on a fixed machine, a cramped bench where the operator walks to fetch boxes, and freed hours that are not used.
  • Mixed sizes: on a fixed machine each size change means resetting width and height. If that happens often, put a higher machine-seconds figure in, or price a self-adjusting model instead.

Our carton sealing machine buying guide helps match the machine to your carton mix before you price it.

When do the numbers say keep the hand dispenser?

If the payback runs into several years, or the net monthly value comes out negative, a machine is not the right spend yet. A good tape gun and better tape may be. Our carton sealer vs tape dispenser page explains when the hand tool still wins.

If the numbers do work, a few points protect them after purchase. PackForge manufactures its sealers in Faridabad and keeps wear parts in stock, listed under carton sealer spares. Each machine has 12 months' cover against manufacturing defects, wear parts excluded. On-site help is available in Delhi NCR; elsewhere we support you by phone or video call and send parts by courier. Planned upkeep is covered on carton sealing machine service.

Questions buyers ask

How do I calculate carton sealing machine ROI?

Work out the monthly value of taping time freed and tape saved, subtract the machine's running cost, and divide the machine price by that figure. The result is the payback period in months.

Why are the calculator fields empty?

Because any default saving would be invented. Only the machine price is filled in, using the published rate of the semi automatic model. Every other figure should come from your own floor.

Should I use the rate with or without GST?

If your business is GST-registered and claims input credit, use the rate before GST. If you cannot claim the credit, use the total including GST, because that is your real cost.

Machine kitne mahine mein paisa wapas de degi?

It depends on your carton count, staff cost and tape use. Enter those in the calculator. Low daily counts can mean a long payback, and we would rather you see that before buying.

What machine seconds per carton should I enter?

Time an operator folding flaps and pushing the box through on a trial, or ask us. Do not use the rated belt speed; the person feeding the machine sets the real pace.

Does the calculator count damaged deliveries or returns?

No. Those benefits are real for many units but hard to measure fairly, so they are left out. If the payback works without them, treat any gain there as extra.

Is the result a PackForge guarantee?

No. It is an estimate based entirely on the figures you enter. Actual results depend on your cartons, your people and how the freed time is used.

Can PackForge check my figures?

Yes. Send your carton size, daily count, timing and tape figures on WhatsApp or by phone, and we will tell you plainly which model fits and whether the numbers make sense.
