Carton Packing Strip Machine
Packing strip, tape, patti: the words vary from market to market. This page explains what a strip machine really is, which strip width each model takes, and how to tell it apart from a strapping machine.
What is a carton packing strip machine?
In many Indian godowns and markets, the brown or clear packing tape on a box is simply called strip. A machine that puts that strip on the box is therefore called a packing strip machine, a box packing strip machine or a tape sealing machine. In catalogues it appears as a carton sealer.
Whatever the name, the job is the same: the packer folds the flaps, pushes the box in, and the machine lays one strip along the top seam and one along the bottom seam, cuts each strip at the back edge and sends the box out sealed.

Tape strip or PP strap? Which machine do you mean?
Strip can mean two different things on a dispatch floor, so check this first.
| What you call strip | What it is | Machine you need |
|---|---|---|
| Brown or clear sticky tape over the flaps | BOPP adhesive tape | Carton packing strip machine (carton sealer), covered on this page |
| Plastic band (patti) pulled tight around the box | PP strap, heat-joined | A strapping machine |
Tape keeps the flaps shut. A strap holds a heavy box or a bundle together in transit. Many units use both. Our carton sealer vs strapping machine guide explains when each one is needed.
How does the machine lay the strip?
Each tape head holds a roll of strip on a hub. The loose end waits just in front of the box path, sticky side facing the carton.
- The front face of the box touches the strip and carries it forward.
- A front roller presses the strip down the leading face and onto the seam.
- The box keeps moving on the belts while the strip runs along the joint.
- When the back edge passes, a toothed blade cuts the strip.
- A rear roller wipes the cut end down the back face.
The top and bottom heads work at the same moment, so both seams are done in one pass. Each end of the strip folds down the box face as a short leg, which is what stops the seal from peeling in transit.
2 inch or 3 inch strip: which width does each model take?
In the market, 2 inch strip is usually sold as 48 mm and 3 inch as 72 mm. Machine heads are made for a set width range, so match the roll to the head before buying in bulk.
| PackForge model | Strip width the head takes |
|---|---|
| 102TUS (small cartons) | 36 or 48 mm |
| 102TU (standard cartons) | 50 mm (2 inch) or 76 mm (3 inch) |
| 102TR pneumatic | 48, 60 or 76 mm |
| 5050Z flap folder | 48, 60 or 76 mm |
| 5050J edge sealer | 60 or 76 mm |
| 102PLS tape and strap combo | 50 or 76 mm |
| Compact and SAC-01 | Not listed; ask us with your roll width |
Light boxes seal well with 2 inch strip. Heavier boxes and stiff 5 or 7-ply board hold better with 3 inch, because more of each flap is covered. If you already stock 72 mm rolls, tell us and we will confirm they suit the head you choose.

Which strip roll goes in the machine?
A machine can run the same BOPP tape you use by hand, but short hand rolls finish quickly and stop the line. Most units switch to longer machine-length rolls after the first week.
- Machine-length rolls: fewer roll changes per shift.
- Hand rolls: fine for rework and odd boxes taped at a side table.
- Printed strip: your name or a handling mark printed on the tape, made to order from your artwork.
All three are on our BOPP tape rolls page. For the difference between grades, read carton sealing tape vs packing tape.
Haath se strip vs machine strip: what changes?
With a tape gun, one person tapes the top, turns the box over, tapes the bottom and turns it back. Strip length depends on the hand, so some legs are long and some barely reach the edge. The bottom seam, done upside down in a hurry, is often the weakest.
A machine tapes top and bottom together and cuts every strip to the same pattern, so leg length stays even from the first box to the last. Strip use becomes predictable too, which helps when you buy tape by the carton. The machine pays most where one box size runs for long spells. For low counts with constantly changing sizes, a good hand dispenser can still be enough.

What is a carton packing strip machine?

What is the carton packing strip machine price?
PackForge models start at ₹57,500 + ₹10,350 GST for the compact sealer. The semi automatic top and bottom model costs ₹69,730 + ₹12,551 GST. Delivery is free across India.
Can I use 3 inch strip on a 2 inch machine?
No. The head is made for a set width. Choose a model whose head takes 3 inch strip, such as the 102TU, if your heavier boxes need wider tape.
Is a packing strip machine the same as a strapping machine?
No. A strip machine applies sticky tape over the flaps. A strapping machine pulls a plastic band tight around the box. Some dispatch floors need both.
Does the machine save strip compared with a tape gun?
Usually it gives even leg lengths on every box, so tape use is steadier and easier to plan. Actual saving depends on how much your packers overlap by hand today.
Can the machine run printed tape?
Yes, printed BOPP strip runs like plain tape as long as the roll width suits the head. Printed rolls are made to order from your artwork.
