Packaging machines for Hosur

Hosur ships across a state line to Bengaluru and out to the world, which means a lot of what leaves it is packed twice — once for the trip down the road, and once for the container.

Hosur Industrial Area · Hosur, Tamil Nadu

Hosur, on the Tamil Nadu side of the Karnataka border, holds two-wheeler assembly, electronics and electricals, auto components, watches and precision goods, largely inside the SIPCOT phases and the belt along the Bengaluru road.

PackForge Industries supplies from our works at Faridabad. This page is about a place that packs for two destinations at once.

Two destinations, two packs

A great deal of Hosur's output travels forty kilometres to Bengaluru and a great deal travels to a port. Those are not the same journey and they should not get the same pack.

Over-packing the short trip is where money quietly goes. A pallet going up the road to a Bengaluru warehouse does not need export-grade film force or double strapping, and a plant that uses one specification for everything is paying export prices on domestic freight.

The practical fix is a machine that holds two settings and an operator who knows which is which. That is a commissioning and labelling job rather than a machine feature, and it is worth doing properly on day one.

For the export half, the pallet is the unit and film force decides whether the load is held or merely covered through a container cycle.

Two-wheeler components and the vibration problem

Components going into two-wheeler assembly are dense, often finished, and travel in quantity. The damage they take is rarely dramatic — it is rub, over hours of road vibration, between parts that were not quite tight in their box.

A loose box is a rubbing box. Filling the void matters more than strengthening the carton, and the strap's job is to keep the box from going loose as its contents settle. That is a tension question and it should be set rather than judged.

Where parts are palletised, the same argument applies at the pallet: a load that has settled has slack film, and slack film lets the top layer walk. Top wraps are what stop that, and they are the setting most often left at a default.

Electronics and the static question

Hosur's electronics and electricals units bring a requirement that does not appear on a packing machine's datasheet: the machine may have to stand inside a static-controlled area.

That changes where it can go and how it is earthed. If the machine is going inside such a zone, say so at the enquiry — it is straightforward to accommodate and awkward to retrofit.

The second electronics requirement is tamper evidence. Several buyers require a seal that shows if a box has been opened, which is a tape and pattern question rather than a machine one, and the machine has to be able to run the tape the buyer specifies. Send the specification and we will confirm against it.

Buying, and the state line

Hosur is in Tamil Nadu and a great deal of its trade is with Karnataka, which matters for the invoice rather than for the machine. Tell us which state the goods are being billed into and the first quotation is right rather than revised.

Prices are ex works from Faridabad, with GST and freight quoted separately. It is a long haul and the freight line will show that honestly.

At this distance, hold the wear parts that stop a line yourself — the heating element, the blades, the wheels and seal kit. It is the cheapest insurance available and it removes distance from the equation.

One practical note on the approach: several Hosur plots sit off service roads with a turn that a long vehicle cannot make. Tell us the largest vehicle that reaches your gate and the machine is loaded on something that can get there, rather than trans-shipped at the last kilometre.

Growing out of a bench machine

A great many Hosur units start with one bench machine and reach a point where it is the bottleneck. Knowing when that has happened is worth more than buying early.

The signal is not the machine running flat out. It is people queuing at it, or packing being done twice — once badly at the bench and once properly later. If cartons are being set aside to be strapped 'after', the machine has already been outgrown.

The next step is usually a second identical machine rather than a larger one. Two benches absorb a peak and survive a breakdown; one faster machine does neither. It is also cheaper, and the operators already know it.

Move to a bigger machine when the pack itself changes — when pallets replace cartons, or when a customer's standard asks for something a bench cannot do. That is a different decision and we will say which one you are actually facing.

Questions from buyers in Hosur Industrial Area

We use one packing standard for everything. Is that a problem?

It is usually an expensive one. Export-grade packing on a forty-kilometre trip is money spent on freight you were not charged for. A machine can hold two settings; the discipline is knowing which to use.

Our parts rub in transit even though the box is fine.

The box has gone loose as the contents settled. Fill the void and set the strap tension so it holds as it settles — that is a setting, not a judgement.

The machine has to sit inside a static-controlled area.

Say so at the enquiry. It changes where it stands and how it is earthed, and it is easy to accommodate and awkward to retrofit.

Our buyer requires tamper-evident sealing.

That is a tape and pattern question. Send the specification and we will confirm the machine can run the tape they require.

Which state should the invoice be raised in?

Tell us at the enquiry. Getting it right on the first quotation saves a revision later.

When should we move from one bench machine to two?

When people start queuing at it, or when cartons are set aside to be strapped afterwards. Two benches absorb a peak and survive a breakdown; one faster machine does neither, and it usually costs more.
