Packaging machines for Peenya Industrial Area

Peenya is enormous and made of very small units. Thousands of workshops, most of them under a few thousand square feet, doing precision work for somebody larger. The machine that suits it is small, and that is not a compromise.

Peenya Industrial Area · Bengaluru, Karnataka

Peenya, in phases across the north-west of Bengaluru, is among the largest industrial estates in Asia by unit count and among the smallest by average unit size. Precision machining, electronics and instrumentation, machine tools, plastics and a very long tail of job-work shops.

PackForge Industries supplies from our works at Faridabad. This page is about buying sensibly when the unit is small and the work is precise.

Small units, precise parts, high value per box

A Peenya box is often worth a great deal more than it weighs. Precision components, instruments and machined parts are light, valuable and damaged by things that would not trouble a casting.

That changes the failure mode. The problem is not the box bursting — it is the contents moving inside it, and arriving with a surface finish nobody will accept.

Internal packing solves that and no machine we sell does. Foam, moulded inserts and interleaving are what stop movement, and it is worth saying plainly that a strapping machine does not help with it. What a machine does is close the box consistently once the inside is right.

Where the box is right, an even seal and a light strap hold it shut for transit. A low table top strapping machine at the packing bench is the usual arrangement, because it takes almost no floor and sits at working height.

Job work, and packing somebody else's parts

A large share of Peenya's output is job work: the customer's material, machined and returned. That makes the packing question unusual, because the parts are going back rather than out.

Returnable packing is the sensible answer and it is cheaper over a year than one-trip cartons, but it only works if the container comes back. Where it does, the packing machine's job shrinks to closing a lid and applying a label, which may mean you need less equipment than you thought.

We would rather tell you that than sell you a sealer. If most of what leaves your shop is going back to the same customer in the same crate, the machine that earns its place is a strapping tool for the crate, not a carton line.

Where cartons are genuinely used, keep the size range short. A shop running three carton sizes can use a fixed sealer well; one running twelve cannot use it at all.

Power, floor and the constraints a small unit really has

Two things decide more Peenya purchases than the specification does, and both are worth settling before we quote.

The electrical point. Many machines that suit a bench run on a single phase and some do not. Tell us what you have — it is the most common avoidable problem on a small-unit installation, and it is discovered on delivery day if it is not asked about first.

The approach. A first-floor unit up a narrow stair rules some machines out entirely. Send a photograph of the route with the enquiry rather than the dimensions of the room; the route is what decides it.

Neither of these is a reason not to buy. Both are reasons to ask early.

Buying from the other end of the country

Bengaluru is a long way from Faridabad and the freight line on a quotation will show it. Prices are ex works, with GST and freight quoted separately so you can see what the machine costs and what getting it to you costs.

The parts that stop a bench machine are inexpensive — the heating element and the strap guides on a strapper, the blades on a sealer. At this distance they belong on your own shelf, and that single decision removes most of what distance costs you.

For a fault, call. Most problems on a bench machine are settled on the phone with the machine in front of you, and that is much quicker at 2,000 kilometres than anything else.

Sharing a machine between units

Peenya's units are small enough that neighbours sometimes share equipment, formally or otherwise, and it is worth being practical about it.

A bench strapping machine is the one that travels well. It is light, it runs off an ordinary point, and moving it does not disturb a setting that matters. Two or three shops sharing one is a sensible arrangement and we have no reason to discourage it.

A wrapper is not. It needs a level circle, a setting made against particular loads, and moving it undoes both. If a wrapper is being considered for shared use, the honest answer is usually that the shops are too small to need one at all.

Where a machine is shared, agree who holds the spares before you need them. The part that stops it is inexpensive and the argument about who pays for it is not.

And keep one setting written on the machine itself. A shared bench strapper whose tension is adjusted by three different shops is a machine that will eventually be wrong for all three.

Questions from buyers in Peenya Industrial Area

Our parts arrive marked even though the box is intact.

That is internal packing, not the machine. Foam, inserts and interleaving stop movement; a strapping machine does not. Get the inside right first.

Most of our work goes back to the customer in their own crate.

Then a strapping tool for the crate is probably all you need, not a carton line. We would rather say that than sell you a sealer.

Will the machine run on single phase?

Some will and some will not. Tell us what you have at the enquiry — it is the most common avoidable problem on a small-unit installation.

Our unit is up a narrow staircase.

Send a photograph of the route rather than the dimensions of the room. The route decides which machines are possible.

How many carton sizes can a fixed sealer handle?

Two or three, run in batches. Twelve is not a fixed-sealer problem, and we will say so rather than sell you one.

Tell us what you pack in Peenya Industrial Area

Send your carton size, load weight or line speed and we will tell you which machine fits — including the times when the cheaper machine is the right answer. Prices are ex works from our Faridabad works; GST and freight are quoted separately against your delivery address.
