Fibre drums, lined drums and why the jaw matters

Bulk drug output frequently travels in a fibre drum with a polythene liner rather than in steel, and a fibre drum behaves nothing like a steel one on handling equipment.

A fibre drum's rim will deform under a jaw sized for steel. It is not a matter of capacity — the drum is lighter — it is the pressure on a rim that was never made to take it. A deformed rim will not seal properly on the next fill, and a drum that cannot be closed reliably is a contamination question.

If your output is in fibre drums, say so with the enquiry and send a photograph of the rim. It changes the attachment, and getting it wrong is the sort of mistake that is discovered by quality rather than by maintenance.

For steel and plastic drums the ordinary rules apply, and the safety lock is the feature to check before buying anything from anyone.

Solvent areas, and equipment that has to be safe in them

A good deal of Jeedimetla's floor area is classified, and this is the point at which an honest page says what it does not sell.

We do not supply flameproof or intrinsically safe equipment. Where handling has to happen inside a classified area, that is a specialist requirement and we will tell you so rather than quote a standard machine and hope. Hydraulic hand equipment with no electrical parts is a different case and worth asking about.

For unclassified areas — the packing hall, the despatch bay, the warehouse — ordinary equipment applies and is what most of this page is about.

Say which side of the line the machine will stand on when you ask. It is the first question we would raise anyway.

Secondary packing and documentation

Bulk drug consignments carry more paper than most goods, and the packing has to carry it too: a label that survives the journey, a batch reference that stays legible, and a seal that shows if a drum has been opened.

The strapping, carton sealing, stretch wrapping and material handling machines are the ones we build. Drawing that line clearly is worth more to an audited plant than any amount of general assurance.

Buying and supporting at distance

Hyderabad is a long haul from Faridabad, and prices are ex works with GST and freight shown as separate lines.

For a plant that runs continuously, the sensible arrangement is a small holding of your own wear parts plus a planned visit rather than a call-out. Tell us how many machines and where and a contract can be quoted against that.

If your purchase system needs a vendor onboarding form, a quality questionnaire or an MSME declaration, send it with the enquiry and it comes back with the quotation.

One more thing worth asking for at the same time: the material of construction, in writing, for anything that touches your product or stands in a wash-down area. Your quality department will ask for it eventually, and it is easier to obtain once, with the quotation, than to chase later.

Effluent, spillage and the floor underneath

A chemical plant's floor is not a factory floor. It slopes to a drain, it has been coated, and it has had things spilled on it that were not water.

A slope defeats a turntable. A wrapper needs a level circle, and a floor laid to fall towards a channel is not one. Where wrapping has to happen in such an area, the usual answer is a levelled pad rather than a different machine, and that is a civil job to plan before the machine arrives.

Coatings and wheels do not always agree. Some epoxy floors are slippery when wet in a way that concrete is not, and a loaded pallet truck that slides on one is dangerous rather than merely awkward. Tell us the floor finish and we will say which wheel suits it.
