Packing that feeds a moving line

A component going into Chakan is not going to a warehouse. It is going to a station beside a line, and it will be opened by an operator who has seconds rather than minutes.

That makes presentation part of the function. A bin the operator can reach into without lifting a lid, a stack height that does not need a step, and a wrap that comes off in one movement rather than being cut off — these are the things a receiving plant actually complains about, and none of them appears on a machine's datasheet.

The wrap-removal question is the one worth raising at the enquiry. A pallet wrapped in a lot of thin film is slower to open than one wrapped in less film at a higher force, and at line-side that difference is real. If your customer has ever asked you to make the pallets easier to open, that is a machine setting and we can set it against your own loads.

Kitting, and the packing nobody budgets for

A great deal of Chakan's work is kitting — several parts made in different places brought together into one container that goes to one station.

The packing question that follows is not about strength. It is about whether the kit can be checked. A sealed carton that has to be opened to confirm its contents gets opened, resealed badly, and arrives looking tampered with; a container with a lid that lifts does not.

Where a carton is genuinely the right pack, the seal should be even and the strapping light — enough to hold the box shut, not enough to make opening it a job. A machine seal beats a hand-dragged one here for exactly that reason.

Where the kit is heavy and mixed, the honest answer is often that it should not be a carton at all, and we will say so.

Buying a machine 1,400 kilometres from where it is built

This is the honest part of the page. Chakan is a long way from Faridabad, and pretending otherwise helps nobody.

What that distance does not change: the machine leaves run-tested, the warranty is the same, and wear parts are held in stock for every model we sell.

What it does change is how you should buy. Hold the two or three parts that stop a line on your own shelf. On a wrapper that is the film carriage rollers; on a strapping machine the heating element; on a pallet truck the wheels and the seal kit. None is expensive and holding them removes the distance from the problem entirely.

And call rather than write when something is wrong. Most faults on these machines are settled on the phone with the machine in front of you, and at this distance that is far quicker than anything else. We will tell you on that call what a visit involves rather than print a response time here.

Getting it there

A long road move, packed for the distance — heavier packing than a machine going across the NCR gets, and priced accordingly.

Prices are ex works, with GST and freight shown separately so you can see both. Many Pune buyers have a transporter they already use on this route; tell us and the machine is handed over packed and ready.

If the machine will sit in storage before the line is built — common in Chakan, where capacity is added in planned steps — say so. Storage packing and immediate-use packing are not the same thing, particularly through a monsoon, and it costs nothing to get right at despatch.

Tier-2 into tier-1, and packing you did not choose

A great many Chakan units do not supply the vehicle plant. They supply the company that does, and that changes who sets the packing.

The standard usually arrives second-hand. Your customer passes down what their customer requires, sometimes with detail lost on the way, and you are asked to comply with a document written for somebody else's part. When it does not fit — a bin size that suits a casting and not a bracket, a stack height that wastes half the pallet — the useful move is to go back with a specific alternative rather than to comply expensively.

We can help with that part. Send the standard and the actual part, and we will say what the machine can and cannot hold to, in writing you can forward. A tier-1 buyer will usually accept a reasoned variation; they will rarely accept a complaint.

The other tier-2 reality is order size. A small plant asked to hold a tier-1's schedule buys equipment for a peak it does not control. Say what your worst month looks like, not your average, and we will size against that.
