Carton Sealing Machine for Food Industry

Food shippers meet moisture, cold, dust and heavy contents, often all in one plant. This page goes food type by food type and matches each to the PackForge sealer that handles it.

Quick answer: A carton sealing machine for food industry use should match the carton, not the product. Light snack shippers suit a semi automatic sealer at ₹69,730 + ₹12,551 GST; heavy bottled goods need 3-inch tape on the 102TU; busy lines can add flap folding with the 5050Z. Cold-store cartons also need the right tape grade.

What makes food cartons hard to seal?

A food plant seals the same printed shipper thousands of times a week, so even a small fault repeats at scale. Five conditions cause most of the trouble:

  • Moisture. Board picks up water in a humid hall, a chill room or a wet wash-down area, and soft board holds tape poorly.
  • Cold. Tape adhesive gets sluggish at low temperature, and a chilled carton surface bonds badly.
  • Weight in a small space. Bottles, jars and cans put a heavy load on the bottom flaps.
  • Dust. Flour, masala and tea dust settle on the flaps and keep the adhesive off the board.
  • Many SKUs. One snack or biscuit plant may run a dozen shipper sizes across its brands.

A carton sealing machine for food industry work has to cope with whichever of these your plant has. The sections below take each food type in turn.

Snacks and namkeen: light cartons with springy flaps

A shipper of chips or namkeen pouches is mostly air. The pouches are soft and slightly over-filled, so the top flaps spring back as soon as the packer lets go. If the flaps are not held flat while tape goes on, the seam closes with a ridge and peels at the end legs.

On a semi automatic sealer the packer folds the flaps and holds them as the carton enters the belts. That works at moderate volume. At higher volume, folding four flaps becomes the slowest step on the bench, and that is the job the 5050Z removes. Its folder closes the four top flaps before the taping head, so the operator only feeds the carton. Cartons from 180 x 180 x 160 mm up to 600 x 500 x 500 mm are accepted.

Tall, light snack shippers also stack badly, so check stack height on the truck before blaming the seal.

Beverages and bottled goods: heavy cartons

A carton of bottled water, juice, oil or pickle jars is heavy for its size, and the whole weight rests on the bottom flaps when it is lifted. That is where hand-taped beverage cartons usually fail.

  • Use 3-inch tape. The 102TU takes 50 or 76 mm tape, is rated at 20 cartons a minute and costs ₹1,07,520 + ₹19,354 GST.
  • Keep the end legs long. The tape folded down the end faces takes the pull when the box is lifted.
  • Add a strap for high stacks. Glass and liquid cartons stacked on a distributor's truck benefit from one or two PP straps. A semi automatic strapping machine beside the sealer does this.
  • Wipe spills. A sticky film from a leaking cap stops tape from gripping.

Dairy, frozen and cold-store cartons

Cold storage causes more seal complaints than any other food condition, and the machine is seldom the cause. Board that goes into a chill room takes up moisture and loses stiffness. Adhesive also grips less at low temperature. A seam that looked fine at packing can lift days later, and it is often found only when the pallet is moved.

Three steps help:

  1. Seal at room temperature, before the carton goes cold, onto dry board.
  2. Choose the tape for the cold. Tell us the temperature the carton will sit at and we will quote a tape grade for it. We do not promise that one standard tape holds in every cold store. See BOPP tape rolls.
  3. Strap the shipper as well. A strap does not depend on adhesive and keeps a softened carton square in the stack. Keep tension moderate so it does not cut into damp board.

Spices, tea and dry mixes: dust on the flaps

Ground spice, tea and flour mixes leave a fine film on everything near the filling area, including the carton flaps. Tape then sticks to the powder, not to the board, and the seam lifts at the ends.

Keep the sealer a short distance away from the filling and weighing tables, and give the operator a dry cloth to wipe the flap edges. Many spice and tea cartons are small consumer-pack shippers. If yours are narrow, the 102TUS holds boxes from about 80 to 90 mm and uses 36 or 48 mm tape. For a small unit with modest volume and little space, the compact sealer at ₹57,500 + ₹10,350 GST stands free and draws about 0.2 kW.

Bakery, biscuits and confectionery: many sizes on one floor

A biscuit or confectionery plant runs several brands and pack counts, each with its own shipper. On a fixed-size sealer each change means resetting width and height. With two or three sizes a day that is manageable; with many, packers start taping odd sizes by hand again.

  • Few sizes: a semi automatic carton sealing machine at ₹69,730 + ₹12,551 GST, set once per run.
  • Many sizes, mixed in one queue: the auto size adjust random sealer reads each carton and resets itself, about 500 to 700 cartons an hour, for ₹3,19,270 + ₹57,469 GST. It needs compressed air at 5 to 6 bar.
  • Mixed sizes with a choice of tape width: the 102TR pneumatic sealer takes 48, 60 or 76 mm tape, at ₹2,50,880 + ₹45,158 GST.

When does the 5050Z flap folder pay?

The 5050Z carton sealer with flap folder costs ₹3,11,808 + ₹56,125 GST, more than four times the semi automatic model. It earns that where one person on the line does little except fold flaps, because the folder takes that job off the line.

  • It runs at up to 25 cartons a minute, so taping keeps pace with a busy filling line.
  • It needs an air line at 0.4 to 0.6 MPa and draws 260 W on a 220 V or 110 V supply.
  • Its base is 830 x 920 mm, and it weighs about 250 kg.

It suits snack, beverage and FMCG food lines filling one carton size for long runs. On a small or mixed-size line it is too much machine. Compare all options on the carton sealing machine price page.

Date codes, hygiene and where the sealer stands

The costliest food dispatch error is a correct product in a shipper with the wrong date or batch code. Put the sealer after the coder, so the operator closing each box can read the code on the panel. PackForge does not supply coders.

A carton sealer works on the outer shipper, not on the food itself, so it belongs in the packing or dispatch area, away from open product. We do not claim food-contact certification for these machines. If your audit standard asks about frame material or finish, ask with the enquiry and the answer comes in writing on the quotation. Keep the machine dry and clear of wash-down spray.

Food clusters we supply from Faridabad

PackForge manufactures its carton sealers in Faridabad and delivers free across India: about 3 days to a metro city and 5 to 6 days to other towns.

  • Kundli and Rai, Sonipat. The HSIIDC estates north of Delhi hold food processing, dairy, beverage and snack units. Being in Delhi NCR, they also get on-site service. See packaging machines for Kundli and Rai.
  • Kalamassery and Kochi, Kerala. Seafood processing and spice packing dominate, so cold and dust are both everyday issues. Support there is by phone or video, with spares by courier. See packaging machines for Kalamassery.

Questions buyers ask

Which carton sealer for food industry lines is the usual first buy?

For one shipper size run for long hours, the semi automatic top and bottom sealer at ₹69,730 + ₹12,551 GST. Heavy bottled goods suit the 102TU with 3-inch tape.

Why does tape lift on cartons from the cold store?

Chilled board takes up moisture and adhesive grips less in the cold. Seal before chilling, choose a tape grade for the storage temperature and add a strap to stacked shippers.

Namkeen ke carton ke flaps baar baar khul jaate hain, kya karein?

Hold the flaps flat as the carton enters the sealer, and do not over-fill. At high volume, the 5050Z folds all four top flaps before taping, so this problem goes away.

Is the 5050Z worth it for a small food unit?

Usually not. It costs ₹3,11,808 + ₹56,125 GST and needs compressed air. It pays where one person on a busy line does little except fold flaps.

Can one sealer handle all our biscuit shipper sizes?

A fixed sealer can, with a reset for each size. If sizes change often through the day, a self-adjusting random sealer avoids the resets but needs air at 5 to 6 bar.

Is the carton sealer food-grade?

It works on the outer shipper, not the food, and we do not claim food-contact certification. If your audit asks about frame material, we answer in writing on the quotation.

Do bottled drink cartons need strapping as well?

Often yes, when they are stacked high on a distributor's truck. One or two PP straps over 3-inch tape keep heavy cartons square and take load off the bottom seam.
