Primary pack: what we build and what we supply

This is worth settling before anything else, because a food plant's auditor will ask.

Filling machines, capping and can sealing and labelling machines are Fulcrum catalogue models — supplied, installed and serviced by Fulcrum Infratech Pvt. Ltd. They are not built at our Faridabad works.

Vacuum packaging, shrink packaging and band and impulse sealing sit in the same catalogue. The strapping, carton sealing, stretch wrapping and material handling machines are the ones designed, assembled and run-tested at our own works.

The shipper, and why food cartons fail differently

A food shipper carries weight in a box that is often not very strong, and it spends part of its life somewhere cold or damp. Board loses strength when it takes up moisture, and a carton that was fine at despatch is not fine after a night in a chill room.

Strapping compensates for a good deal of that: two straps hold a softened carton's shape under a stack where tape alone will not. Tension has to be moderate — high tension on a damp carton cuts the edge.

For the seal itself, an even machine seal beats a hand dispenser, and on a printed shipper that difference is visible. A semi automatic carton sealer where the size is steady; hand taping plus strapping where it is not.

Pallets into distribution

What leaves a Kundli food plant usually goes onto a distributor's truck as a pallet, and it is handled by people who have never seen your product.

A turntable stretch wrapper holds it, and film force is the setting that decides whether the load is held or merely covered. On tall, light pallets — snacks and packaged foods are the classic case — a top press holds the stack down while it turns, which beats adding wraps.

For movement inside a chilled or wet area, wheel choice matters: a wet floor is not a dry one, and a truck that skids is a truck nobody uses. Tell us the floor condition with the enquiry.

Date coding, and the check that belongs at the end of the line

A food or FMCG shipper carries a batch and a date, and the single most expensive packing failure in this belt is not a burst carton — it is a correct product in a carton coded wrong.

The coding sits upstream of everything on this page, and it is worth being clear that we do not supply coders. What we would say is that the check belongs at the same point as the seal: whoever closes the carton is the last person who can see the code, and a line laid out so that the sealer sits before the code is a line where nobody checks it.

If you are placing a sealer or a strapper on a new line, place it after the coder and leave someone a clear view of the panel. It costs nothing at layout stage and it is close to unfixable afterwards.

Buying from the other end of the NCR

Kundli sits north of Delhi and our works are south of it, so this is the longest intra-NCR move we make. It is still a road move.

Prices are ex works, with GST and freight shown separately. If the machine will be stored before installation — common when a new line is being built — say so, because storage packing and immediate-use packing are not the same thing.

We will give you the despatch date on the day you ask and the docket number once it moves.

A machine that has to be cleaned, and cleaned often

Almost nothing on this page matters as much as this one thing: in a food plant, the machine gets washed down, and most packing machinery is not designed for it.

Ask what happens when water goes where it should not. A control box that is fine in a warehouse is not fine under a hose, and the failure is not immediate — it is a month later, intermittently, in a way that is very hard to diagnose. If your cleaning regime involves hosing the area, say so at the enquiry, because it changes what should be quoted and where the machine should stand.

The second thing is what the machine is made of where it can be reached. Crevices that cannot be cleaned are the ones an auditor photographs, and a bench machine with an open frame is easier to defend than a closed one nobody can get into.

And the shift pattern. A plant that cleans down between products loses the machine's setting every time somebody moves it to clean behind it. A machine that is bolted where it stands and can be cleaned around keeps its setting; one that is dragged aside twice a shift does not. That is a layout decision and it is worth making before the machine arrives rather than after.
