What is made in Sectors 24, 25 and 27

Forging shops, foundries, machining units, fastener plants and a long tail of component suppliers to the auto and tractor industry. The characteristic output is a metal part: dense, oily when it leaves the machine, and shipped by weight rather than by volume.

The other half of the belt is the shops that serve those plants — tool rooms, heat treatment, plating, and the traders in bar stock and consumables who keep them running. Their packing is smaller and more varied, but it is the same material.

What this means for packing is simple and it is the opposite of what a warehouse needs. Nothing here is light. Nothing is fragile in the way a carton of electronics is fragile. The failures are burst cartons, slipped pallets and people hurt lifting.

The packing problem a forging or machining unit has

A box of forged or machined parts is small and extremely heavy for its size, and it fails at the bottom seam under a stack. Tape holds a seam; it does not hold a load. Two straps do, and the standard arrangement here is a sealer for the seam and a strapper for the load.

Above a certain weight the box stops being the unit and the pallet takes over. Then the question is whether the strap goes round the load, round the pallet, or round both — and for parts that will not sit still, both is usually the answer. A pneumatic strapping tool does it where no arch will take the load.

Oil is the quiet problem. Parts that leave a machining centre carry cutting fluid, and a carton that has absorbed oil loses most of its strength. That is a liner and a wrap question before it is a machine question, and it is worth solving first — no strapping machine rescues a carton that has gone soft.

Moving weight on a Faridabad shop floor

A forging or machining floor is the hardest environment a pallet truck sees: scale, swarf, oil and a surface that has been repaired more than once. Wheels fail here first, and they fail early.

Polyurethane load wheels last considerably longer than nylon on that floor and are worth specifying at the order rather than replacing in six months. Choose capacity against your heaviest pallet with a margin — a truck run permanently at its rated load loses its seals early, and a seal kit is not a job anyone wants on a shop floor.

Oil is the part that catches people out. A wheel that is fine on a dry floor loses grip on one with a film of coolant on it, and a loaded truck that slides is a truck that is steering the operator rather than the other way round. Where the floor is genuinely oily, that is a housekeeping fix first and a wheel specification second, and we would rather say so than sell a wheel that will not solve it.

For oil, coolant and quench drums, a drum carrier and lifter with a working safety lock. The lock is the feature that matters; a lifter whose lock is unreliable will eventually lower under load.

Being in the same city as the works

Two things follow from it, and neither is a promise about time.

Second, when something is wrong, the machine and the people who assembled it are in the same city. We are not going to print a response time on a web page — what we will do is tell you honestly, on the call, what a visit involves and when.

Strap, tape and the specification that actually matters

More problems in this belt turn out to be strap problems than machine problems. Width and thickness decide the break load; a machine set for 0.55 mm will not run 0.63 mm properly, and strap bought on price alone changes specification between batches.

If a machine you already own has become unreliable, check the strap before you call anybody about the machine. It is the single most common cause and the cheapest fix.

When we will tell you not to buy a machine

This belt is full of people who can make things, and that changes the honest answer to some enquiries.

A jig to hold a part while it is strapped, a roller table to feed a sealer, a stand at the right height for a bench machine — these come up constantly, and in Sector 24 you have a fabricator two gates away who will make any of them better and cheaper than buying it. We will say so. Selling somebody a stand they could have welded in an afternoon is not a sale worth having in a city where everyone knows everyone.

The line we draw is at the parts that decide whether the machine works: the tension assembly, the heating element, the sealing head, the hydraulics. Those are not a fabrication job, and a machine running on a locally made version of one of them is a machine we cannot stand behind.

What is genuinely worth buying is the thing that repeats a setting. A person can pull a strap tight; a person cannot pull it to the same tension four hundred times, and that consistency is what the machine is actually for. If your problem is that packing quality varies with who is on shift, that is exactly the problem a machine solves. If it is that a part is awkward to hold, talk to your neighbour first.
