Spares for machines you did not buy from us

A large part of what Mayapuri needs is a part for a machine somebody else sold, possibly years ago, possibly by a supplier who has since disappeared.

Take a picture of the worn part and of the machine's nameplate and send both. We will say straight whether one of our parts will do the job, which it sometimes will. A picture beats a part number here, since every supplier names its parts differently while a picture means the same to everyone.

It is cheaper to have the parts whose failure halts work already in your shop than to order them after they break. For a strapping machine that means a heating element and strap guides; for a pneumatic tool, a tension wheel and a cutter; for a pallet truck, a set of wheels and a seal kit.

Moving metal round a yard

A Mayapuri yard is the worst surface a pallet truck will ever meet — broken concrete, loose metal, and a camber that was never intended.

Polyurethane wheels are not optional here, they are the only thing that lasts. Choose capacity against your heaviest load with a real margin, and expect the load wheels to go before anything else does.

Oil and lubricant drums should go on a drum carrier and lifter with its safety lock in working order. Odd items that are neither drums nor palletised loads are usually better served — and more cheaply — by a plain material handling trolley than by anything elaborate.

Buying strap in a market that sells by weight

Strap in Mayapuri is often quoted by the kilogram rather than by the metre, and that single difference is where a good deal of money quietly goes.

A kilogram of strap is not a length. Thinner strap gives you more metres per kilogram, so a lower rate per kilo can be the same or a worse deal per metre, and a thinner strap also has a lower break load. Two reels quoted at the same price per kilo can be a different product entirely.

Work out your cost per metre and your break load, and compare on those two numbers rather than on the rate. If a supplier will not tell you the thickness, that is the answer to the question.

The second trap is core size. Reels come on different cores, and a machine or a dispenser expects one. A cheaper reel that does not fit your machine's spindle is not a cheaper reel, and it is a surprisingly common reason for a bench full of strap nobody can use.

Our PP strap is sold on its specification — width, gauge and core size — and matched to whatever your machine is set up for now. A clear photo of an existing reel's label is enough for us to identify it.
