What Bawana and Narela make

Injection moulding and plastic goods, rubber and moulded components, hardware and fasteners, electrical accessories, small chemical and paint units, and a broad base of general engineering. The units are larger than Delhi's older estates and the output leaves in fuller loads.

The characteristic pack is a carton of moulded or hardware goods — light for its volume in the plastics units, dense in the hardware ones — palletised for a truck rather than handed to a tempo.

Chemical and paint units add drums, and drums are the thing most likely to hurt somebody in this belt.

Where a stretch wrapper starts paying

Bawana is the Delhi estate where the pallet, not the carton, becomes the unit. Once that happens a turntable stretch wrapper stops being a nice-to-have.

The number worth understanding before you buy is not the machine's price — it is the film. A wrapper set badly uses half again as much film as one set properly, and at a full-load dispatch volume that difference exceeds the machine's price inside a couple of years. Film force and the number of top wraps are the two settings that matter, and they should be set against your own loads, not left at a default.

Where the load is light for its volume and stacked high — which is exactly what a plastics unit ships — a box wrapping machine with top press holds the stack down while it turns. That is a mechanical answer to a mechanical problem and it beats adding more film every time.

Drums, and the tipping point

Bawana's paint, plastics and lubricant units do not just move drums, they decant from them, and that is a different job with a different piece of equipment behind it.

A drum that is being poured has to be tipped and held at an angle, steadily, while somebody works underneath it. That is not the same as lifting a sealed drum from a pallet to the floor. If your operators are pouring, say so at the enquiry — the attachment and the geometry are different, and buying the lifting-only version and discovering it later is a common and avoidable mistake.

Part drums are the awkward case. A half-empty drum has a moving load inside it, and it behaves nothing like a full one on a lifter or a trolley. The weight shifts as the drum tilts. Where a unit routinely handles part drums, the capacity margin has to be larger than the arithmetic suggests, and the operator has to be told why.

For drums that only ever move flat, from a delivery pallet to a store, a hydraulic hand pallet truck with a drum cradle is cheaper and quite sufficient. We will say when that is the right answer rather than quoting a lifter.

Sealing at volume when the plot is big enough

A larger unit with steady carton sizes is the case where a semi automatic carton sealer earns its keep straightforwardly — one or two sizes, set once, run all day.

Where the sizes genuinely change through the shift, an automatic random carton sealer measures each box itself. The honest caution is that its sensor can miss a very light-coloured or glossy carton, and the sensitivity has to be set against your actual boxes rather than a sample.

Strapping is what holds the load on the pallet afterwards, and it is a separate decision from sealing. Most Bawana lines that reach this size end up with both.

Getting the machine to Bawana

Bawana sits at the far north of Delhi and our works are at the far south of the NCR, so this is the longest road move of any Delhi estate — still a road move, not a freight consignment.

Prices are ex works, with GST and freight shown separately. Many Bawana units have their own vehicle and prefer to collect; tell us and the machine is packed and handed over ready. We will give you the despatch date on the day you ask.

Power, and what a Bawana plot actually has

A relocated unit on a new plot is usually the first occupant of that electrical connection, and the load it was sanctioned for was worked out before half the machinery was bought.

This catches people out on packing machinery more than it should, because packing is bought last. By the time the wrapper or the sealer is ordered, the moulding machines, the compressor and the lighting have already taken the sanctioned load, and the new machine is starting against a supply with nothing left in it.

Tell us your available load and your supply arrangement at the enquiry. Starting current on a wrapper's turntable drive is briefly several times its running current, and a supply that is fine in steady state can trip on start. It is a solvable problem — soft start, or a different point — but only if it is known before the machine arrives.

The other Bawana-specific question is the generator. A unit running on DG for part of the day is running on a supply with a different waveform and a different tolerance for load steps. If a machine will run on DG, say so; it is not a reason not to buy, but it is a reason to specify carefully.
