Sub-assemblies, castings, forged parts, sheet metal pressings and fabricated structures. Heavy, dense, often oily, and frequently too awkward to box at all.

A large share of it is crated or palletised rather than cartoned, which moves the packing question away from sealing entirely. What matters is whether the load stays on the pallet and whether the pallet stays together.

The other constant is that the receiving plant runs to a schedule. A late or damaged consignment is a line-stop conversation, which is why the tension setting on a strapping tool is worth more attention here than the machine's price.

Strapping heavy and awkward

No arch will swallow a crate of castings or a bundle of pressings, so instead of bringing the load to a machine you take the tool to the load. Powered by compressed air, a pneumatic strapping tool pulls the strap tight, seals the joint and trims the tail in a single operation, and it gets far tighter than any operator could manage by hand.

How well it works depends on the compressed air feeding it. Before we confirm a tool we need two figures from your plant, the line pressure and the flow you can spare; when one of these tools disappoints, the cause almost always lies in the air supply and not in the tool.

For boxed parts and palletised cartons a semi automatic strapping machine is faster and more repeatable. Most plants in this belt end up with one of each, and it is worth planning for that at the first purchase rather than discovering it at the second.
