Carton Sealer Belt Replacement

Belts are the part of a carton sealer that moves the box, and they wear quietly. This page explains when to change them, how to set tension and how to order the right replacement for your PackForge model.

Quick answer: Replace a carton sealer belt when its face turns shiny or cracked, when it has stretched past the end of its adjuster, or when cartons slow down or twist even though the width is set correctly. Change both side belts as a pair, tension them so the box is pulled without slipping, and quote your model when ordering.

What does the belt do on a carton sealer?

On most top and bottom sealers, two belts run on the side guides and grip the carton by its walls. They pull it past the lower and upper tape heads at a steady pace, and that steady pace decides how long the tape legs come out at the front and back of the box.

Some designs also carry belts above the carton; our spares range lists both side and top drive parts. Whatever the layout, the job is the same: move the carton straight, at an even speed, without crushing it. Buyers also call it the carton taping machine belt. For how a side drive works on a complete carton sealing machine, see the side belt carton sealer guide.

Which signs tell you a belt is worn?

  • Glazed face: the rubber turns smooth and shiny and no longer bites into the board.
  • Cracks across the face: small splits, usually worst where the belt bends round the pulley.
  • Frayed edges: a sign the belt has been riding off-centre on its pulley.
  • Carton crawls: boxes slow down or stop halfway although width and height are right.
  • Carton turns: one belt grips more than the other, so the box reaches the tape head at an angle.
  • Uneven tape legs: the front clip comes out longer or shorter than the rear one because speed changes during the pass.
  • No adjustment left: the tension screw is at the end of its travel and the belt is still slack.

A dirty belt can show the first two signs as well. Clean it and test again before you order a new one.

Belt, setting or carton: what is really causing the slip?

Not every slipping box needs a new belt. Rule out three things first.

  1. Width setting. If the guides sit wider than the box, the belts barely touch it. Bring them in until both meet the carton walls lightly.
  2. Carton surface. Glossy printed outers give the belts less to hold. A belt that grips plain kraft board may slide on laminated print.
  3. Load. A carton far heavier than its board grade bulges, rubs the table and drags.

If all three are fine and the belt looks glazed or cracked, the belt is the cause. Our carton sealer troubleshooting guide deals with other symptoms such as torn or lifting tape.

How do you check belt tension?

Tension means how tightly the belt is stretched between its pulleys, not how hard it presses the carton. Check it with the plug pulled.

  1. Press the belt with a thumb midway between the pulleys. It should give a little and spring back, neither sagging nor feeling rigid like a rod.
  2. Compare left and right. Both side belts should feel the same; an unequal pair is what turns cartons.
  3. Switch on and run a box of your regular size. It should be carried through at full speed without any push from you.
  4. Hold that box back lightly for a moment. A healthy belt keeps pulling; a slack one stops while its pulley keeps turning.

Over-tightening is a fault too. It loads the motor and pulley bearings and shortens belt life. Turn the adjuster in small steps, by the same amount on each side.

How do you fit a new carton sealing machine belt?

  1. Switch off and unplug. On an air-driven model, also close the air valve and let the pressure fall.
  2. Remove any cover over the drive. Photograph the tension adjuster so you know where it sat.
  3. Slacken the adjuster fully so the idler pulley moves in and the belt goes loose.
  4. Lift the old belt off the idler first, then off the drive pulley.
  5. Clean both pulleys. Old rubber, dust and tape scraps on a pulley face make a new belt wander.
  6. Check the new belt matches the old one in length, width and face pattern. If it carries a direction arrow, fit it pointing the way the belt travels.
  7. Seat it on the drive pulley, then the idler, and take up tension at the adjuster.
  8. Run it empty for a minute and watch that it stays in the middle of both pulleys.
  9. Seal two or three test cartons and compare the front and rear tape legs.

Replace both side belts together, even if one looks better. A new belt beside a worn one grips unequally and the carton swings towards the slower side. After the change, reset width for your box as described in how to use a carton sealer.

Which belt fits each PackForge model?

Belt length and width are not printed on our spec sheets, and belts that look identical on two models often differ by a few millimetres. So the table lists the published speed or output of each machine and what to send us. The belt size column is left as a dash on purpose; we confirm it against your machine before dispatch.

Why do belts wear out early?

  • Guides set too tight. Squeezing the carton makes the belt scrub its walls on every pass.
  • Tape and glue on the belt. A dropped tape end sticks to the face and collects dust, so grip falls.
  • Oil or solvent. Lubricant meant for pivots that drifts onto rubber softens it. Keep oil away from belts and pulleys.
  • Running empty for hours. Switch off between batches; idle running wears the belt with nothing sealed.
  • Boxes dropped onto the table. Place heavy cartons gently so the belt and its bearings do not take the knock.
  • Pulley out of line. A belt that rides to one edge frays there. Check tracking after any bump to the side guide.

How long does a carton sealer belt last?

There is no fixed life we can promise. It depends on hours run, carton weight, board quality and how clean the belts are kept. An hour a day on light parcels wears a set far more slowly than three shifts of heavy cartons.

The practical method is to write the fitting date on the inside of the belt cover and in your maintenance log. Once the first set wears out you know your own interval, and the next pair can be ordered a few weeks before it falls due.

Are belts covered by the warranty?

No. Every PackForge carton sealer carries a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, and drive belts are wear parts, like blades and rollers, so they sit outside it. That is why we suggest a spare pair on the shelf for any machine that runs a full shift.

Belts, blades and rollers for our models are listed under carton sealer spares. If the cut is poor at the same time, read our page on the carton sealer blade. To catch belt wear before it stops a shift, follow the carton sealer maintenance schedule.

Questions buyers ask

Carton sealer belt kitne time mein badalna padta hai?

There is no fixed interval. Change it when the face is glazed or cracked, or when cartons slip although the width is set right. Heavy boxes and long shifts wear belts sooner, so note the fitting date and learn your own cycle.

Should I replace one belt or both?

Both side belts together. A new belt next to a worn one grips unequally, the carton turns towards the slower side, and the tape lands off the seam with uneven legs.

Can I fit a belt from another make on my PackForge sealer?

Only if length, width, thickness and face pattern all match. Belts that look alike often differ by a few millimetres. Send the model plate and a photo of the old belt and we will confirm what fits.

Is a carton packing belt machine the same as a carton sealer?

Not usually. That phrase is often used for conveyor-type packing machines. On a carton sealer the belts only drive the box past the tape heads. If you need a sealer, send your carton size and daily count.

Why does the carton twist as it enters the machine?

Usually the two side belts grip unequally because one is worn, slack or dirty, or the guides are not centred on the box. Check both belts, set equal tension and centre the guides before blaming the tape head.

Do I need an engineer to change the belt?

Most maintenance staff can do it with basic hand tools by following the steps on this page. In Delhi NCR we can send an engineer; elsewhere we guide your fitter on a phone or video call.

Belt pe tape chipak gaya hai, kya karein?

Switch off and unplug. Peel the tape away by hand, then wipe the glue with a cloth lightly dampened in a cleaner that is safe on rubber. Let the belt dry fully before running cartons, otherwise grip stays low.
