Half the packing complaints in a sheet metal shop come down to one thing: oil. Film does not stick to it, rust grows under it, and neither problem is solved by the machine you are about to buy.

A pressed part leaves the machine with oil on it, and stretch film does not cling to an oily surface — it slides.
The visible result is a pallet that arrives loose even though it was wrapped tightly. The film did its job and the load moved underneath it.
The fix is not more film or a higher force. It is a barrier: a layer between the parts and the film, or parts in a bin or a carton on the pallet rather than stacked bare.
Where parts are stacked bare, the film is holding the top layer only. Anything below that is held by friction, and oil has already removed the friction.
Film is not a moisture barrier in the way people assume. It slows air movement, which in a humid month means the moisture that was already inside the pallet stays inside it.
Parts wrapped warm are the worst case. Warm metal wrapped tight condenses as it cools, and a pallet opened three weeks later has surface rust that nobody can explain.
Let parts reach ambient temperature before wrapping. Where the season demands it, use VCI paper or film rather than ordinary film, and keep the desiccant question separate from the wrapping question.
This is a monsoon problem in this city, and it is worth planning for in June rather than discovering in August.
A stretch wrapper wraps what it is given. If the pallet is broken, the wrapped load is a broken pallet with film on it.
Sheet metal is heavy for its footprint, so the pallet takes more punishment here than in most trades. Check boards and blocks before loading rather than after the load has collapsed in a truck.
Overhang is the other common fault: parts extending past the pallet edge take the impact of every other pallet in the vehicle, and the film cannot protect what is sticking out.
Keep the load inside the footprint and the film has a chance. Let it overhang and no machine setting will save it.
A sheared or laser-cut edge cuts film as readily as it cuts a finger, and a cut in the film unravels the whole wrap from that point.
Corner board is the ordinary answer and it does two jobs at once: it protects the film from the edge and it spreads the strap load if the pallet is also strapped.
Where parts are nested with edges outward, turn them inward. It is free and it removes the problem rather than protecting against it.
If your wrapped pallets arrive with film hanging off them, look for the edge that cut it before you change the film grade.
A turntable in a press shop lives in oil mist and metal dust, and both reach the bearings and the film carriage.
Ask about the carriage and the turntable drive when you ask about the price, and plan to clean the machine on a schedule rather than when it starts complaining.

Not special, but ask about the film carriage and the turntable drive. Oil mist and metal dust reach both, and cleaning on a schedule matters more here than elsewhere.
After. A wrapped pallet gets opened for inspection and re-wrapped badly, and the second wrap is the one that travels. Where inspection is on a sample only, mark the sampled pallet so it is not opened twice.
