What does Jaipur put in cartons?

Jaipur's packing floors handle four broad groups of goods, and each lands in a different carton:

• Handicraft and home decor for export. Wooden, metal and stone decor, lamps and blue pottery, often a different item in every carton of an order.
• Printed textiles. Hand block and screen prints from Sanganer and Bagru, made into bedsheets, cushion covers, kurtis and fabric lengths.
• Quilts. The light cotton Jaipuri razai is famous across India and goes out in large, soft cartons.
• Gems and jewellery. A major trade in the city, though the goods themselves travel in small secure parcels rather than sealed cartons.

How should handicraft export cartons be sealed?

Export decor is usually packed in 5 ply or 7 ply cartons, with each piece wrapped and blocked inside. Two things set it apart from domestic dispatch: the cartons in one order come in many sizes, and they must survive container loading and long storage at the buyer's end.

1. Use 3-inch tape on anything heavy. It grips more of each flap than 2-inch tape.
2. Follow the buyer's taping pattern. If the packing instructions ask for an H-tape, the 5050J edge sealer lays the centre strip and both edge strips in one pass, for packs of 2.5 to 30 kg.
3. Check the size limits. The 5050J takes cartons from 320 x 200 x 180 mm up to 500 x 500 x 500 mm. Furniture and large decor outside that range are taped by hand or crated.
4. Deal with mixed sizes. When every carton differs, the 102TR pneumatic sealer adjusts itself and accepts 48, 60 or 76 mm tape.

Sitapura, Vishwakarma and Mahindra World City

Most Jaipur enquiries come from a few industrial areas:

• Sitapura. This RIICO estate south of the city, near the airport, holds handicraft exporters, engineering units and a special economic zone for gems and jewellery. Exporters here are the main users of heavier sealers.
• Vishwakarma Industrial Area. On the north side, along the Sikar road, it is one of the city's oldest estates, with engineering, food and consumer goods units that fill regular cartons on long runs.
• Mahindra World City. On the Ajmer road, this integrated industrial city has zones for handicrafts, engineering and IT.
• Sanganer and Bagru. Printing and textile units in these towns fill bedsheet and garment cartons in steady sizes.

Jewellery units in Sitapura that do need a sealer usually pack small outer boxes. Those suit the 102TUS, which grips cartons from about 80 to 90 mm.

Bedsheets, quilts and printed textile cartons

Bedsheet sets and cushion covers are the easiest Jaipur cartons to automate. They are packed to a fixed count, in one carton size per product, so a fixed-size machine set once runs all day. Quilts are harder. A carton of razais is light but large, and many such cartons are wider or taller than 500 mm, which is the upper limit for most of our sealers. Measure your quilt carton before ordering. If it is too big, a hand dispenser remains the practical tool for that line, and the machine can serve your bedsheet and fabric cartons instead.

Is a sealer worth it when every carton is different?

Many handicraft exporters ask this, because their orders rarely repeat a size. A fixed machine is a poor fit there: each size change takes time, and a packer may spend longer adjusting than taping. The honest answer depends on volume:

• A few dozen cartons per container, in twenty sizes, are usually quicker to tape by hand on a good dispenser.
• Hundreds of cartons a day in mixed sizes justify the 102TR, which needs a small compressor of 2 / 3 litre at 5 bar, or the auto size adjust random sealer at ₹3,19,270 + ₹57,469 GST.
• An exporter whose domestic or online arm runs one size can put a fixed sealer there and keep hand taping for export lots.
