Secondary packing, and the line we draw

Say this first, because it is what a Baddi quality head will want to know.

Filling, capping and can sealing, labelling, vacuum and shrink packaging are Fulcrum catalogue models — supplied, installed and serviced by Fulcrum Infratech Pvt. Ltd., not built at our Faridabad works. The strapping, carton sealing, stretch wrapping and material handling machines are the ones we build.

For a plant that has to document its equipment, that distinction matters more than any general assurance, and it is better stated on a web page than discovered in an audit.

On any requirement your SOP sets — material of contact, cleanability, guarding — ask with the enquiry and the answer comes back against the SOP. We will not claim a certification we do not hold.

The shipper, at volume

A formulation plant's shipper is light, uniform and produced in very large numbers, which is close to the ideal case for a fixed-size semi automatic carton sealer. One or two sizes, set once, run all day.

Consistency is the whole value. At these volumes a seal that varies between operators produces a percentage of cartons that a distributor's inbound check will query, and that percentage costs more than the machine.

Strapping is usually light here — the shipper is not heavy — and its job is to hold the box shut under a stack rather than to carry weight. Low tension, and edge protection if the board is thin.

Batch integrity, and where the machine sits on the line

The most expensive packing failure in a regulated plant is not a damaged carton. It is a correct product in a carton coded or labelled wrong.

We do not supply coders, and it is worth saying so. What we would say about layout is this: whoever closes the carton is the last person who can see the code, so a line where the sealer sits before the coder is a line where nobody checks it.

Place the sealer after the coder and leave a clear view of the panel. It costs nothing at layout stage and is close to unfixable afterwards. Send a line layout with the enquiry rather than a machine list and we will say where things want to stand.

The hill road, and what it does to a delivery

Baddi is not far from Faridabad in kilometres, but the approach is a hill road with vehicle restrictions, and that is a real constraint on how a machine arrives.

Tell us the largest vehicle that can reach your gate. It decides how the machine is packed and sometimes whether it is trans-shipped, and it is far better known at despatch than discovered at a turning.

Prices are ex works, with GST and freight shown separately. We will give you the despatch date on the day you ask and the docket number once it moves; we do not print a delivery day, and on this route in particular an average would be misleading.

If the machine is arriving in winter, say so. A machine that has travelled cold and is started immediately in a warm room can carry condensation into places it should not be, and the answer is simply to let it stand. It is the sort of thing nobody mentions until somebody has an intermittent fault they cannot explain.

Contract manufacturing, and packing to several owners at once

A large share of Baddi's capacity is contract manufacture: the same line runs a different brand owner's product each week, each with their own artwork, their own shipper and their own rules.

That makes changeover the whole packing problem. A machine that takes twenty minutes to reset costs a plant running four brands a week more than the machine is worth inside a year, and it is the number nobody puts in the purchase case.

Ask two questions before buying. How long does a size change take, honestly, with an operator rather than an engineer? And can the setting be returned to exactly, or is it found again by eye each time? The second matters more, because a setting found by eye drifts, and drift on a regulated line is a deviation.

Where several brand owners' standards conflict, send them all with the enquiry. It is usually possible to find one machine setup that satisfies every one of them, and much harder to do that after the machine is installed.
