Carton Sealing Machine for Export Packing
An export carton may sit in a closed container for weeks, under a full stack, in damp air. This guide shows how to choose a carton sealing machine for export shipments so the seal survives that journey and passes the buyer's inspection.
What does a carton go through on an export journey?
A domestic carton usually travels a few days on one truck. An export carton passes through many more hands, and each stage tests the seal in a different way:
- Factory to port or ICD. Road transport, loading and unloading, often by hand.
- Stuffing. Cartons are stacked floor to roof in the container, so the bottom layer carries the whole column.
- Sea leg. Weeks inside a steel box. Temperature swings between day and night cause moisture to condense on the roof and walls.
- Inspection. Customs or a buyer's agent may cut open sample cartons and close them again.
- Destination. Another round of handling into a warehouse, where stacks can go higher still.
A seal that is merely acceptable on day one has to hold for all five stages. That is the real job of a carton sealing machine for export work.

Start with the buyer's packing specification
Most overseas buyers send a packing instruction with the order. Read it before choosing a machine, because it often settles the question for you. Look for these points:
- Tape width. Many specifications ask for 3-inch tape; some accept 2-inch on light cartons.
- Seal pattern. A centre strip top and bottom, or an H-seal with edge strips.
- Straps. The number of PP straps per carton, and whether they run one way or crosswise.
- Carton grade. The ply and board strength the buyer expects.
- Marks. Where the shipping marks and labels must sit, which decides where tape may not go.
If the instruction is vague, ask the buyer for it in writing. A claim for damaged goods is easier to defend when every carton was packed exactly to the written specification.
Why do damp containers weaken carton seals?
Corrugated board takes up moisture from the air and gradually loses stiffness. In a humid container the walls of a bottom-layer carton start to bow, the flaps flex, and any tape that was laid loosely or with short end legs begins to lift at the corners.
A machine cannot stop board absorbing moisture, but it removes the weak seals that fail first:
- Every strip is pressed down along its full length by the rollers.
- End legs come out the same length on every carton, so no box has a short leg to peel.
- The tape is centred on the joint, gripping both flaps equally.
Do your part on the floor too. Store empty cartons off the ground and away from damp walls, and let cold cartons and tape reach room temperature before a sealing run. Tell us your cartons are going by sea, and the tape grade can be matched to that.
Centre seal, H-seal or strap: which suits your shipment?
Match the closing method to the carton weight and to how the cargo will be handled. Rates exclude 18% GST.
| Export carton | Closing method | PackForge option | Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light to medium cartons of one regular size, palletised or floor-stacked | 3-inch centre seal, top and bottom | 102TU | ₹1,07,520 + ₹19,354 GST |
| Tall cartons stacked high, or buyer asks for visible tamper evidence | H-seal: centre plus edge strips | 5050J edge sealer | ₹9,40,800 + ₹1,69,344 GST |
| Heavy cartons lifted by hand at both ends | Centre seal plus two PP straps | 102PLS taping and strapping combo | ₹4,04,992 + ₹72,899 GST |
| Mixed sizes from many suppliers, one consolidation yard | Centre seal, size set per box | 102TR pneumatic sealer | ₹2,50,880 + ₹45,158 GST |
A strap does a different job from tape. Tape keeps the flaps closed; a strap carries lifting load and holds a carton together if the board softens. For export cartons above moderate weight, many packers do both. A separate arch type semi automatic strapping machine costs ₹51,310 + ₹9,236 GST and can sit after any sealer.

Which machines run 72 mm tape for export cartons?
Indian tape sellers usually call 3-inch tape 72 mm, while PackForge lists its 3-inch heads as 76 mm. Send the width printed on your roll core and we will confirm the fit. Published tape widths for the models export packers use most:
- 102TU: 50 mm or 76 mm.
- 102PLS: 50 mm or 76 mm.
- 102TR: 48, 60 or 76 mm.
- 5050Z with flap folder: 48, 60 or 76 mm.
- 5050J edge sealer: 60 or 76 mm.
- 102TUS: 36 or 48 mm only, so it is not a choice where the specification demands 3-inch tape.
The semi automatic carton sealing machine at ₹69,730 + ₹12,551 GST suits steady domestic and export cartons alike; confirm its tape width against your roll before ordering.
Handicraft exporters: sealing cartons from many workshops
Craft exports from clusters such as Moradabad's brass and metalware trade are usually assembled from many small makers. The exporter's yard receives goods in assorted cartons, opens them for checking, repacks some and closes them all again before stuffing.
Three points matter in that kind of yard:
- Inner packing comes first. Wrapping and inserts protect the piece; the sealer only closes the outer carton.
- Sizes vary. A fixed-size sealer needs resetting for nearly every lot. A self-adjusting sealer or hand taping plus a strapper often works better.
- Reseals should look like seals. After inspection, a machine-closed carton looks the same as the rest of the shipment.
For machine choices in that cluster, read export packing in Moradabad.
How do you handle opened and resealed cartons after inspection?
Pre-shipment inspection agencies usually open a sample of cartons from the lot. If those are closed by hand afterwards, they stand out at the destination and invite questions.
- Keep the sealer close to the inspection area, not only at the packing line.
- Run resealed cartons through the same machine settings as the original lot.
- Where a printed tape is used, reseal with the same print so the shipment looks uniform.
- Record which carton numbers were opened, so the packing list matches what the buyer sees.
A sealer with fast size change, or one that sets itself, saves time here because sample cartons come back in random order.

Size limits to check before you order
Export cartons are sometimes larger than domestic ones. The published maximum width and height for the 102TU, 102TR, 102PLS and 5050J is 500 mm. The 5050J also needs a carton of at least 320 x 200 x 180 mm and handles packs of 2.5 to 30 kg. The 5050Z takes up to 600 x 500 x 500 mm.
Wooden cases and oversized cartons are outside every sealer's range and are better strapped or hand taped. Measure your largest export carton against these limits, and use the carton sealing machine buying guide to work through the rest.

Questions buyers ask
Which carton sealer for export packing should a new exporter buy first?
For one regular carton size and a 3-inch tape specification, the 102TU is a sensible start. Add a strapping machine when cartons are heavy, and consider the 5050J only if buyers ask for an H-seal.
Is 72 mm tape the same as 3-inch tape?
In the Indian market, yes, rolls sold as 3-inch are usually marked 72 mm. PackForge heads are listed at 76 mm, so send the width on your roll and we will confirm it fits.
Export carton ke liye tape aur strap dono zaroori hain kya?
Not always. Tape keeps flaps shut; straps carry lifting load. Light cartons often need only tape. Heavy cartons, or a buyer specification that names straps, need both.
Does an H-seal stop moisture getting into the carton?
No. An H-seal closes the corners and makes tampering visible, but it does not waterproof board. Keep cartons dry before packing and follow the buyer's instruction on liners or wrapping.
Can one sealer handle all the carton sizes my suppliers send?
A fixed-size sealer needs resetting for each size. If sizes change all day, a self-adjusting sealer such as the 102TR, which needs a small air compressor, saves that time.
What is the largest export carton these sealers take?
Most models list 500 mm as the maximum width and height. The 5050Z takes cartons up to 600 x 500 x 500 mm. Bigger cases should be strapped or taped by hand.
Can you set the machine for our export carton before dispatch?
Yes. Send the length, width and height of your main export carton with the order, and the machine is set for it before it leaves Faridabad.
