No two pieces are the same shape, most of them are hollow, and the finish is the product. Moradabad is the hardest packing problem on this site, and the honest answer involves less machinery than anywhere else.
Moradabad Handicraft Cluster · Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh
Moradabad exports brass, iron and mixed-metal handicraft — decorative pieces, lighting, tableware and furniture fittings — largely to Europe and North America, in mixed consignments assembled from many small workshops.
PackForge Industries supplies from our works at Faridabad. This page says plainly where a machine helps here and where it does not, because that distinction matters more in Moradabad than in any other cluster we supply.
The damage that costs a Moradabad exporter money is a dent, a scratch or a bent fitting, and none of those is prevented by a sealing or strapping machine.
It is prevented inside the carton. Individual wrapping, moulded or cut inserts, and enough of both that nothing moves. A hollow brass piece packed loose will dent against its neighbour however well the outer carton is closed, and a strap pulled tight around a carton of hollow ware will deform what is inside it.
We would rather write that on the page than sell a machine that cannot solve it. Get the inside right, and the outer packing becomes ordinary work.
Where a strap is used on hollow ware, it should be light — enough to hold the carton shut in a stack, not enough to compress it.
Once the inner packing is right, three things repay a machine.
The seal. A mixed consignment is opened and checked by a buyer's agent before it ships, and a carton resealed by hand after inspection looks resealed by hand. A machine seal is even, and on a printed export shipper that difference is visible.
The bag. Polished brass is bagged before boxing to keep tarnish and fingerprints off, and a band or impulse sealer does that far faster and more consistently than tape.
The pallet. Mixed consignments go into a container as palletised stacks of cartons of very different weights, and a turntable stretch wrapper is what holds a stack like that together for the sea leg.
An export order here is usually made in a dozen places and brought together in one, which puts the whole packing burden on the consolidator rather than the maker.
That has a practical consequence worth planning for: cartons arrive already closed, in sizes nobody chose, and have to be opened for checking and closed again. A fixed-size sealer is close to useless in that yard; hand taping plus a strapper, or a random-size machine if the volume justifies it, is the realistic arrangement.
Standardising the shipper across your suppliers is worth more than any machine. It is not our sale to make, and it is the single change that would improve packing in this cluster most.
Brass is dense. A container of Moradabad handicraft reaches its weight limit long before it runs out of space, which reverses the usual packing economics.
Cube is not your constraint — weight is. That means there is no reason to compress anything, and every reason to use the space for protection instead. More inner packing costs you nothing in freight on a weight-limited container.
It is the opposite of the advice a knitwear exporter needs, and it is worth stating because generic export-packing advice usually assumes cube.
Most of the damage we are asked about in Moradabad is not transit damage at all. It is finish damage, and it is done before the carton is closed.
Lacquer needs its full cure time before anything touches the surface, and the pressure of a hand is enough to leave a bloom on a piece that felt dry. Antique and oxidised finishes are worse, because the mark shows up days later against the patina rather than at once.
The packing bench is where a production delay gets absorbed, and that is exactly the wrong place for it. If the polish line is running late, the honest fix is a longer rack, not a faster packer.
Where the piece is properly cured, tissue and a moulded insert do the rest. Nothing we sell improves on a correct insert - a machine seals and secures the carton, it does not protect what has been packed badly inside it.
Moradabad is a short run from the works by the standards of this site. The machine leaves run-tested; prices are ex works with GST and freight shown separately.
For a small unit the two questions worth settling before we quote are the electrical point and the approach — many workshops here are on upper floors up narrow stairs, and that rules some machines out entirely.
Send a photograph of the route in with the enquiry rather than the dimensions of the room. The route is what decides it.
That is inner packing, not the outer carton. Individual wrapping and inserts so nothing moves — no sealing or strapping machine prevents a dent.
Lightly if at all. A tight strap deforms what is inside. Enough to hold the carton shut in a stack is the right amount.
Then cube is not your constraint and there is no reason to compress anything. Use the space for protection — it costs you nothing in freight.
A fixed-size sealer will not work in that yard. Standardising the shipper across your suppliers is worth more than any machine we could sell you.
Send a photograph of the route in, not the room. It rules some machines out, and that is much better known before delivery day.
Look at cure time before you look at the carton. A finish that felt dry to the packer can still take a mark from his hand, and it appears days later.
Send your carton size, load weight or line speed and we will tell you which machine fits — including the times when the cheaper machine is the right answer. Prices are ex works from our Faridabad works; GST and freight are quoted separately against your delivery address.
