Compression, and why it is the whole argument

A container of blankets reaches its cubic limit with the weight allowance barely touched. Every centimetre of air in a bale is space you paid to ship.

The bale has to be compressed and then held compressed, and holding it is the harder half. A bale that relaxes in transit arrives larger than it left, which is a freight bill nobody budgeted and a stack that no longer fits the plan.

Strap tension is what holds it, and it has to repeat. This is the clearest case on the whole site for a machine over a hand tool: a person can pull a strap tight, and a person cannot pull four hundred straps to the same tension across a shift.

Strap specification carries the load. Width and thickness decide the break load, and a bale that is fighting the strap will find the weakest reel in your stock.

Marking, and the corner where it happens

A strap under real tension across a soft bale cuts into the corners, and on a finished blanket or a rug that mark is a rejection.

Edge protectors solve almost all of it and cost very little. It is worth deciding at the machine stage rather than after the first returned consignment, and it is the first thing we would ask about if you tell us your bales are marking.

The second cause is wrapping the bale in film that is too thin for the tension. Film is not a protector; it is a cover. If the strap is doing the work, put something under it at the corners.

Moving bales without a forklift

Many Panipat units move bales by hand and by trolley rather than by forklift, and a compressed bale is heavier and more awkward than it looks.

Material handling trolleys shaped for the load do most of it. Where bales are palletised for a container, a hydraulic hand pallet truck with capacity chosen against your heaviest pallet — with a margin, not at the limit.

The floors here are usually sound, which means wheel choice is not the fight it is in a foundry. Nylon is quieter and cheaper and will last on a good floor; we will say so rather than upsell.

Where the film and the strap are kept

Consumables are treated as stores stock in most Panipat units, and they are the one item that does not survive being treated that way.

Stretch film loses cling in heat and takes dust in an open store; a dusty film does not grip itself, and the pallet that unwraps in transit was usually wrapped with good film kept badly. Polypropylene strap goes brittle in direct sun, and a brittle strap snaps at the weld rather than in the middle, which looks like a machine fault and is not.

Keep both off the floor, out of the sun, and covered. In a shoddy or blanket unit, covered matters most of all - the fibre in the air settles on a film roll in a day.
