Sealing Machine for Food Packets – Sweets, Dry Fruits, Bakery & Masala

Sweets, dry fruits, bakery, masala and grocery – which sealer size suits each, how to keep the bench hygienic, and how to leave room for the label.

Quick answer: For food packets – sweets, dry fruits, bakery, masala and grocery – a hand impulse sealer closes plain and PE-lined pouches with a clean 2 mm seal that leaves room for the label. Use the 8 inch for spices and tea, the 10 inch for bakery bags and the 12 inch for 500 g snack packs.

Hygiene at the sealing bench

  • Keep the sealer on a clean, dry table away from the frying and roasting area.
  • Wipe the Teflon strip with a dry cloth at the end of the day; never wash the machine.
  • Fill with a scoop or funnel so the pouch mouth stays clean – oil or powder in the seal area causes leaks.
  • Use food-grade pouches from a supplier who can give you a declaration for them.
  • Keep a spare Teflon tape: a scorched strip leaves marks on the pouch.

Leave room for the label

Every packaged food pack needs a label with the product name, net quantity, MRP, date of packing, best before, FSSAI number and maker’s address. Plan the pouch so the label fits below the seal line and the seal is at least 1 cm from the top of the label. A 2 mm impulse seal leaves more label space than a wide hot-bar seal.

Licences and labels for a new brand are covered in how to start a namkeen and masala packing business.

Shelf life starts at the seal

A pouch is only as airtight as its seal. A clean, continuous 2 mm impulse seal keeps moisture out of biscuits and namkeen, stops ants getting into sweets and keeps the aroma in spices. Three habits make the difference: seal within minutes of filling so the product does not pick up humidity, press for the full cycle and hold the arm a second after the light goes off, and check a few packs from every batch by squeezing them gently – a pack that hisses has a channel in the seal.

For products that go stale quickly, such as roasted snacks, pack in smaller sizes that are finished soon after opening, and choose a laminated pouch with a PE inner layer rather than a plain poly bag.
