Chips and Namkeen Packet Sealing Machine

Which namkeen and chips pouches an impulse sealer closes well, which it does not, the right size for each pack weight, and how many packets an hour to expect.

Quick answer: For namkeen and chips packs in plain or PE-lined pouches, a hand impulse sealer is the right machine – usually the 12 inch for 500 g packs, at ₹1,873. One operator seals about 200 to 400 packets an hour. Metallised or foil chips pouches need a hot bar or band sealer instead.

The honest rule: if you can see silver when you tear the pouch, an impulse sealer is the wrong tool. Everything with a PE inner layer is fair game.

How many packets per hour?

On a hand impulse sealer one operator typically seals 200–400 namkeen packets an hour, depending on how fast the filled pouches reach the sealer. With one person filling and weighing and one sealing, a shop or small unit packs 1,500–3,000 packs in a day. Above that, bags start queuing for the sealer – the point to look at a continuous band sealer.

If the sealer runs all day, choose the Heavy Duty 12 inch (₹2,873, 5-year warranty).

Getting a clean seal on oily snacks

  1. Keep 2 cm of the pouch mouth free of oil and powder – fill with a funnel or scoop, not by hand.
  2. Wipe the mouth with a dry cloth if masala dust has settled on it.
  3. Start at timer 3 for plain film and 5 for laminates; go up one step at a time.
  4. Hold the arm 1–2 seconds after the light goes off so the seal sets under pressure.
  5. Check: a clear, even line with no wrinkles. A brown line means the timer is too high.
