What does Morbi pack, and in what kind of box?

Morbi, about 65 km north of Rajkot in Saurashtra, is the country's biggest ceramic tile cluster. Hundreds of units make wall, floor and vitrified tiles, and the town also has a large sanitaryware trade and a long history of wall clock making. Each product leaves in a different kind of box:

• Tile boxes. Flat, wide and heavy for their size, usually closed by the tile plant's own packing line and then strapped.
• Sanitaryware cartons. Bulky boxes for basins and closets, and smaller cartons for seats, cisterns, fittings and accessories.
• Clock cartons. Light retail boxes packed by the dozen into corrugated master cartons for distributors.
• Trading and export cartons. Mixed loads of samples, display boards and accessories sent to dealers or packed for containers.

Why are tile boxes hard on tape?

A box of large-format tiles can weigh 20 kg or more, yet it is only a few centimetres tall. That shape works against tape in three ways:

1. The weight is spread over a large, thin flap. When a worker lifts the box by one side, the far end sags and pulls the seam open.
2. The edges take every knock. Tiles chip at the corners, and a box that has been dropped on an edge often splits along the tape line.
3. Stacks are tall and long-lived. Boxes sit in dealer godowns and container loads for weeks, with the full weight of the stack on the bottom boxes.

Tape keeps the flaps closed and dust out. It cannot carry the load on its own. That is why the strap, not the tape, is the main hold on most tile boxes.

Will your Morbi carton fit a PackForge sealer?

Measure your box before anything else. Many tile boxes for 600 x 600 mm and larger tiles are wider than any of our sealers accept, and many flat boxes are below the minimum height. Published limits for the main models:

When is strapping better than tape for tiles?

For most tile boxes, strapping is the better closure, and tape is at most a dust seal. Strap rather than tape when:

• The box is wider than 500 mm or flatter than the sealer's minimum height.
• A single box weighs close to what one person can lift.
• Boxes are bundled or palletised for a container and must not shift.
• The board is already printed and closed by the tile plant's own line.

Which Morbi cartons does a sealer handle well?

Plenty of Morbi's cartons are a good fit for a sealer. The common ones:

• Clock master cartons. Light, regular and made in large runs. A semi automatic top and bottom sealer at ₹69,730 + ₹12,551 GST suits most clock units.
• Sanitary fittings and accessories. Cartons of taps, seat covers and cistern parts are within size limits and heavy enough to need 3-inch tape. The 102TU takes 76 mm rolls.
• Small-format tile boxes. Wall tiles in smaller sizes often pack into boxes inside the 500 mm limit; check the height against the table above.
• Spares and display material. Mixed cartons for dealers, where a sealer simply gives a neat, even seal.

How do you protect heavy cartons on export loads?

Morbi ships tiles and sanitaryware to many countries, and export containers usually load at the Kutch ports of Mundra and Kandla. A container journey adds handling, port storage and humidity. For the cartons that do go through a sealer, three steps help:

1. Use 3-inch tape and long end legs on anything heavy.
2. Add an H-seal on heavy accessory cartons. The 5050J tapes the centre seam and both ends for packs of 2.5 to 30 kg.
3. Strap and palletise for the container, so boxes do not slide against each other.

How does a sealer reach Morbi from Faridabad?

What support do Morbi units get after delivery?

We have no office, dealer or stock in Morbi or anywhere in Gujarat, and on-site visits are limited to Delhi NCR. Set-up and fault finding for Morbi are done by phone or video call.
