Almost nothing leaving Naraina travels in a truck the sender owns. It is handed to a transport company, counted by somebody else, and stacked beside forty other people's goods. That single fact decides how it should be packed.
Naraina Industrial Area · Delhi, Delhi
Naraina Industrial Area, in phases either side of the Ring Road in west Delhi, is a mix of light engineering, auto part manufacture and trade, printing, and a large number of traders who assemble and forward rather than manufacture.
PackForge Industries builds strapping and carton sealing machines at our works in Faridabad, an hour away on the other side of the river. This page is about the consignment that leaves your gate and is immediately somebody else's to handle.
A part load booked with a transporter is unloaded, tallied, restacked and reloaded before it reaches your customer. Every one of those steps is a chance for a box to go missing, and for the shortage to become your problem to prove.
The answer is to stop sending boxes and start sending units. Four cartons strapped into one block are one item on the tally, not four, and a block that has been opened shows it. Most of the shortage arguments in this market are about single cartons that were never strapped to anything.
A semi automatic strapping machine is the ordinary answer here. The operator pushes the strap round, the machine tensions and welds it, and the tension is the same on the last bundle of the day as the first — which a hand tool cannot honestly promise.
Set the tension to hold the stack square rather than to bite into it. On a light carton, a strap pulled too hard cuts the top edge and the block loses its shape at the first restack.
In a transport godown your consignment is identified by what is written on the outside of it and nothing else. The docket is in an office; the goods are on a floor.
Mark on two adjacent faces, not one, because half your boxes will be stacked with the marked face against a wall. Keep the mark above the strap line so a strap does not sit across the consignee's name.
Where a consignment is more than one bundle, number them — 1 of 3, 2 of 3 — on the outside. It costs nothing and it settles a shortage argument in a minute rather than a week.
None of this is equipment. We are saying it because a customer who buys a strapping machine and keeps marking badly has fixed the smaller half of his problem.
A large part of Naraina forwards goods rather than manufacturing them, and repacking somebody else's carton is its own job.
The supplier's carton was designed for the supplier's journey, not yours. A carton that arrived by full truck from a plant is often too weak for a part-load onward journey, and the honest fix is an outer carton or a strapped block rather than more tape on a tired box.
Where you break bulk and reship in smaller quantities, the box you buy matters more than the machine you buy. A machine seals and secures what you give it; it cannot make a thin board carton into a strong one.
If you are reshipping in the original carton, at least add the strap. It is the cheapest protection available to a trader and it is the one most often skipped.
Naraina's plots are small and most of the working space is already occupied. A strapping machine is not large, but it needs the operator to walk round two sides of the load, and that is the measurement people forget.
Tell us the space you have with the enquiry rather than the machine you had in mind. The table size is chosen from your carton, and where the floor is tight, the machine goes against a wall with the load coming to it rather than the other way round.
The electrical point is the other question. Ask your own electrician what is available at the spot where the machine will stand before the machine is ordered, not after — it is a small job when it is planned and an awkward one when it is not.
Faridabad to Naraina is a short haul, and a machine of this size travels as ordinary road freight. Prices are ex works; GST and freight are shown separately against your delivery address.
Where you would rather see the machine run before deciding, say so with the enquiry and bring a carton of your own. Watching your own box being strapped settles more questions than a datasheet does.
We will give you the despatch date when you ask and the docket number once it moves. No delivery day is printed on this page because the honest answer depends on the route and the week.
Stop sending single cartons. Strapped into a block of three or four, the consignment is one item on the tally and an opened block is visible. It will not stop everything, but it removes the easiest kind of loss.
At a hundred a day the machine pays, mainly in consistency. A person can pull a strap tight; a person cannot pull a hundred straps to the same tension by the evening.
The tension is too high for that board. It is a setting on the machine and it should be made against your own carton, not left where it arrived.
Perhaps only strap and better marking. A trader who straps and numbers his bundles has solved most of what goes wrong in a transport godown without buying a machine.
Yes. Bring one to the works at Faridabad, or send the dimensions and weight and we will tell you which table size suits it.
Send your carton size, load weight or line speed and we will tell you which machine fits — including the times when the cheaper machine is the right answer. Prices are ex works from our Faridabad works; GST and freight are quoted separately against your delivery address.
